The distribution is poor and scalpers are escalating the problem. This problem won't fixed itself overnight, but there is thing that we all can do is not to buy any Joes from EBAY. I know this is stupid ideas, but if no demand, no supply.

What people are overlooking (i think intentionally) are the people buying multiples. There are people here who buy 5 -10 of each. But, that has no effect at all right?
There are some who are "troop building" and some who claim to buy multiples for their entire family, cousins and nephews (we all know it's not true) and those who buy entire store stock in one shot, be it one or two cases at at time. But yet we blame mythical humans. The only valid point I see is is distribution. That is a legit reason for low supply. The others are simply excuses and blame-passing so the people with super disposable income can get by unscathed. |

it's fair to be skeptical but i haev no doubt many are buy multiples, just as i do, for myself, kids, keeping one nib/moc, etc. this alone equals 3 to 4 of each of almost everything which is almost always, everything any store has on pegs/shelves. rarely am i that lucky though. personally i blame poor distribution. my sole walmart has not seen a new figure in months. it's been atleast a month for both my targets and atleast 2 weeks for my sole tru. i stopped trying kmart...
i also army build and i'm a big customs guy so there are a few things i buy all i can. hell, i've even overbought just to give other tank members a shot. not everyone is out to hoard (un-necessary negative connotations associated with that) or profit off these. blaming people like me (general catch-all for those who buy lots of everything) is simply an excuse for those who can't get out enough or just have worse distribution problems than others.

well if you can go to a convention and get a majority of old school joes for the same price as a new joe, i would say that they arent supplying the numbers like they were in the 80's. so is this to boost value on the new figures? its not like they didnt know that this 25th anniversary would blow up as big as it has. i also kinda think it has to do with the movie coming out.just think of all the kids that dont know what g i joe even is.then when the movie comes out (no toys for them?). im sure they are still pumping out power rangers.i see them next to the empty g i joe section

I blame ebay, if the problem were really just distribution or actual collectors buying them all, none would be on ebay either. However it is quite the opposite. ebay has TONS of them, every figure you can never find is there in multiples. Why does ebay have them? Simple, scalpers. Apparently every jackass fanboy, geek, toys r us or walmart employee has discovered that if there are no figures available on the shelf, desperate collectors will pay more to get them. Think about it, it's not just the GI joe line this has happened to, it's ALL collectables now. It did not used to be this way. Before ebay, you could find the figures you want in the stores, you were only competing with other local collectors. Finding things was relatively easy. Now you are in essence competing with the entire world for the few figures in your local area. All it takes is one scalper with too much time on his hands to wipe out an entire area on a consistent basis, let alone the half dozen I saw the one day I happened to get to Toys-r-us just when they opened. I'm sure this very forum is filled with scalpers, collectors moonlighting as scalpers are part of the problem. We all know what figures will sell for the most. How many of you if you saw a Flint on the pegs, would leave it and walk away, or buy it and sell it at cost to a fellow collector, rather than ebay it? I just sold a Flint to a fellow board member for $6, because scalpers piss me off, and anything else would be hypocritical. Sure if the market was flooded with product, it would be nearly impossible for the scalpers to buy them all up and the online demand would dry up. But, it is not in a manufacturer's best interest to over saturate the market to that point. I think the distribution would be just fine, if the people who do not even want them would just leave them on the pegs, but that will never happen now.

you have some valid concerns but ebay is a product of our fine system. it's existance and popularity are a tribute to how our market system works. while ebay is not perfect, i'm sure there are plenty of non-us buyers very happy to have ebay. and for just as many of those tossing stones at ebay for creating the atmosphere that is frustrating so many, there are likely just as many of us happy to have found some item on ebay be it new joe or vintage. ebay is not the problem, it's only an outlet for those seeking to make a living off of reselling toys which is a valid job, if you want to call scalping a job.
fi eel i must clarify, i do not do this. you just have to look at things from more than one perspective. i have no problem what so ever with someone trying to make a living off reselling toys. what i do find offensive are those that do so openly and actively here on the tank. i'm sure there are no rules against setting whatever price you feel is justified but reselling for exhorbant profit within a community seems/feels just wrong. it runs counter to what i read about this forum being a great service to the fellow joe in the community. personally i would prefer this happen discretely but i have no right to tell someone else what they must sell what they have for whatever amount. you'll never stop it for happening but it would atleast look much better if it wasn't flaunted.

i agree. I army build to a point, maybe six or seven of what im army building no more. I also keep out for my brother who cannot get out due to work. So if i buy multiples its either to customize the figure (i.e. i buy general hawk and scarlet two packs cause they are great base figures) but for the most part i buy for myself MAYBE two of each one to open and one to leave in box so that if i ever have kids or my brother ever has kids i can pass them on to them. Also yes distribution is a huge issue out in my area. NOTHING new has show up on pegs since wave 4. All i see are buzzer and the occasional serpentor thats it. as far as two packs all i see are general hawk and scarlet maybe the occasion tomax and xamot or ace n wild weasel. Scalpers hit these place in my area like clockwork and thus make it even HARDER to get anything then pump up the prices on ebay. I have never bought anything from ebay for the new jo line and god willing i wont have to. My brother says the same thing if we dont buy they're crap they're stuck with it then maybe they wont go out and hoard em all up. I for one have picked up numerous things for my brother and havent even charged him and he inturn has done that for me. and if anyone needs stuff i charge em cost rounded up <IE if its 6.77 rounded to 7 bucks.> i dont go oh well you owe me ten blah blah blah cause thats bull. So lets keep each other informed and keep the no good scalpers at bay.
