Aside from the fact that I just never "outgrew it?".
Really that is what it comes down to for me, I think it started with Empire Strikes Back, watching old Universal Horror movies over my grandmother's house then snooping through my uncle's closets and finding old Iron Man comics, Mego figures, all kinds of Monster model kits...I was hooked. The other thing is this--I NEED to relax and escape. Collecting comes off as such a "dork" thing, the fact is--for me anyway, that I go to the gym, everyday, work, in a band....getting some quiet time to search the aisles, enjoy the stuff I collected, comming here, stopping at the comic book shop etc etc....I swear it keeps me sane. I take care of my sh*t and there are far worse things I could be doing...I enjoy it and I keep it under control. And of course....nostalgia. All the things I have on display are associated with good, fun, innocent memories. |

I started collecting in 78 (and I was only born in 74). It started with going to a drive-in to see Star Wars. I fell in love with it, and started getting the toys when my parents could afford them. Then the Joes came out, and at age 9, I was hooked. To this day, I'll never completely regret my collecting, only how much I've overdone it. It's also a good way for me to destress, like everyone else.
And you guys have helped get me into my newest hobby; the customizing. Now, if I could only FINISH a custom and post it.

i think the fist collectable store i ever goto go in i must of been 12 or 13 Golden oldies. it was 90 % comics 10% toys and D & D books.i went ther a few times mostly to droool. then over time. i out grew it.
well flash forward im 30 years old eating at a quiznos, and next dor is a comic store i go in for memories. 2 hours later i come out laughing my arse off and i made 10 new friends. and blew $200.00 on comic and toys. over the next 5 years.i must have played every table top RPG and compedative card game known to man and i never expected to get super hooked on the game heroclix. a nerd/dork state of being is more common knowlade then i thought after hanging out ther i ended up managing it on weekends and i had 3 doctors and a lawyer buying stuff from us. and one dude who would sale his soul for conan and red sonya stuff. ive watched him drop a grand and not blink. it seems to me those "dork" people are alot more fun to hang out with them them straght arrow normal people. i mean come on who whats to talk about politics when u can debate who can whoop whos butt thor vs superman. iron man vs batman orks vs space marines. good times baby good times!

well... finding this f***ing website didnt help. lol. i couldnt believe any adults collected toys. i was looking for stuff for my son, but now i kinda feel like its alright to collect some toys.
i loved them as a kid and gave them all away to my nephew when i hit highschool. I also went through baseball cards, then a few comics (wolverine up to #50 and the early valiant were my favorite). when power of the force hit i bought the whole collection for my nephew and also kept a set for my future son. little did i know they'd make much better star wars figures in the future. ohh well. now that i have a son, i know a great way for us to communicate and bond is through gi joe, transformers and star wars. you can teach a great deal in these imaginary worlds that then can be made into parallels in the real world as the child matures. i just recently, like the last two months, started buying anything for myself to keep moc or any vintage items. now ive got a nice set of 25th moc in plastic protectors now, and a great start on a vintage joe figure collection. i have to admit. seeing a moc 25th, or a vintage figure, or my sons mass of toys to play with makes me happy and puts a smile on my face. lol. gi joe, transformers, and star wars are the are the only three lines i buy with rare exceptions (like war machines, those were freakin awsome! we have 4. or wolverine, or jack sparrow etc...)
