Regarding camo, the camouflaged GI Joe figures have rather large patterns (if they were scaled up), but if you paint a custom with scale camo they look good up close, but as soon as you move a little further away the camo does its job and you loose the detail in the figure.
Add to that painting arms and head/neck with green/camo, and you end up with a figure that looks good in a close up photo, but rather boring at end-of-arm length. Anyway that, plus the fact that very detailed camo would be expensive to apply (how is it applied anyway, machine or person?), is my reasoning behind why we have large scale camo patterns on the figures. Related to this, I've no idea why the camo on the O-ring Falcon seemed to work, and give you the right tiger-stripe idea, but on the 25th version it doesn't work at all. Perhaps the background is too light on the new figure or it simply needs denser striping as the figure is larger? Regarding sleeves, yeah I do often want some mid-forearm length sleeves. Yeah sorry, pretty much all off topic! Last edited by lardman; 05-25-2010 at 04:53 AM.. |

Something that drive me nutz about sleeves:
The damned Resolute Dukes and now Flint. First Reso Duke had rolled up sleeves. Yet the toy had short sleeves*. "Okay, they have just that mold for arms, no big deal". But we got also the 5pk reso Duke, that has exactly the arms the regular version should! Now we'll get Flint, that has short sleeves...yet they give him the rolled up sleeves?? Damn, the only one with rolled up sleeves was duke, and he's the only one that doesn't has them! Is that much trouble? The parts are already made! I'm not usually bothered for small details like that, but that particular issue irks me to no end. *the exact arms that Rock n Roll has...we could have had one instead of Flint, Hasbro. But then again, if everything Hasbro gave us were perfect, there'd be nothing to customize... |

The problem is, they don't really look on what they have already done, they seem to do figures by sets. They use a full set of arms, but don't look on the parts themselves. The SS short sleeved upper arms is probably the best of all them, yet it's only used for ninjas. And we get those shitty Flint upper arms, that simply look horrible combined with lower bare arms. Pity, cos just by looking a bit on the pieces, they could do a much more better job.

Sometimes the pegs are different, but I've found most of them to be pretty compatible. The lower arms used on Flint/Tunnel Rat/Resolute Gung-Ho have become kind of standard for arm swaps among many customizers.

But i was talking about the upper arms, with rolled up sleeves. They suck. The shape is not good (i mean anatomically speaking), the look is ugly (too slim), and they're so thin that the peg of the lower arms warps them. They're crap from any point of view. The "meaty" lower arms are cool. Yes, they might look meaty, but cos they're usually used on the above mentioned upper arms. But they work well, they have a good range of movement. (btw, they're actually three models: Shipwreck's meaty arms, Chuckles meaty arms, and Flint's meaty arms. They're all different, but using a similar base mold) Something else annoying: RoC midgetty legs. What's the deal with that?

Actually I would be extremely greatful if they would and I could stop making thier figures better or more customs. It would save a lot of money and time if they would just do it right from the get go...I have obtained waaay to many parts and extras that will never get turned into figures as a result of customizing, just not enough parts left that work well together which was directly caused by Hasbro goofing up the figures from the get go. They have the parts to make them right since a lot fo cutoms use existing parts they have already made, so why they don't is beyond me.

Sleeves don't bother me. I consider it personal preference of each character.
I hate long sleeves. Drives me nuts. Hate wearing 'em. There's a HUGE difference between realism and wanting sleeves the way you prefer, lol Rolled up sleeves does not make elements less real.

Realistic figures have it's place, of course, but I gotta soft spot for the more unsensible toy. Sometimes the more ridiculous it is the more I like it. Also, like baroness says, it's too minor a thing to care about. it's impossible to roll sleeves up
