Hate to admit it as well, but as a kid (maybe 10), I took a figure once. However, about a week later, I felt so bad I went to the store, and paid for it. Managers didn't even get mad; apparently, I was the first "honest thief" they had.
Nowadays, as a former TRU zone specialist/ human resouorces Admin, I walk into TRU and bust butts of people caught stealing. But, back on topic, yeah, I've noticed a lot of legiopn packs pilfered or swapped. |

I used to have a friend who did that. Daily. everywhere we went. He was damn good. he would walk right up to an employee and talk to them while taking the figure out. He was quick and knew what he was doing.
Also, the store cant do anything to a person unless they ahve actually left the premesis with the merchandise. They can however get someone for damaging merchandise if they can find the ripped up package. |

I worked at Target for a few months as a cashier when I got out of HS and saw quite a few shoplifters arrested the second they hit the front doors. One guy actually ran out to try to get away and was immediately tackled as soon as he passed the front doors.
I only stole one thing in my entire life (and it just so happened to be Joe related). I took a GI Joe catalog out of a vehicle box one time when I was 10 or 11. I felt so guilty when I did it, too. Makes me laugh now thinking about it.

I was a bad, bad kid. Horrible. Just short of being sent to juvie. At 10 years old I'd had a master's technique of the one-handed removal of figures out the side of the bubble and down my coat sleeve while appearing to just be browsing through a row of figures on a peg. Gone in 6 seconds flat. I won't say how many, but it was a lot.
Never got caught for those, but I got the beat down for other stuff. I changed my life around and eventually oversaw a big brothers program in my community for many years. I'm not surprised that now figures come in a plastic molded tray inside the card bubble. Any store equipped with CC cameras now has a better chance to be able to catch a thief in the time it takes to remove a figure from the card. And with twistie ties? Glad to see toy companies have wisened up. Last edited by Wylde Weezle; 04-02-2008 at 09:04 PM.. |

though i have yet to see brick and motar thievry these days your stories take me back, true story:
my best friend back in the day had a go-bot stealing ring going on in a store call Alco Ductwald. a kick ass mega dept. store with giant aisles of bliss. we all made fun of go bots and were t-formers and joe loyalists. he had a dark secret of stealing hundreds of these robo abominatinons and hoarding them under his bed, un-known by all of us. his parents found them and turned him in. he was banned from the store of bliss. that was in 1985, last year 2 security agents hired by a certain military branch interviewed me about my friend. he was to be promoted in the military and he needed security clearance. i was honest about this whole scenario and what happened. one guy knew what go-bots were and the other had no idea, it was pretty funny. anyway, he got the promotion and my friend said that i had actually helped clear up that incident all those years later for him and helped him be promoted. sometimes your stink can come back to haunt you much much later than you think. |
