I have 2 pretty much full-time jobs (teacher and election administrator), am in the process of buying an house, and am working to get additional certifications. To say the least, I am busy.
However, I love being a part of the G.I. Joe community created here on HISSTank and on the other great Joe sites (ie GeneralJoes, etc.). I love reading the news, looking at the customs, occasionally commenting, and generally being a part of the community. Recently, I have been trying to help other Tankers out by picking stuff I find here and selling/trading it to them for my costs. I have had lots of trouble finding the time to work the deals, arrange shipping, and to be a good seller/trader. I am so glad that I do not do this for a living, and I am doing it to get cool Joe stuff into the hand of those who cannot get it where they live. I feel like a total jerk for taking so long to get the trades put together and get the packages shipped out. I feel like I am failing as a part of the HISSTank community. Am I being to hard on myself? Should I feel bad about trying to do something nice for my fellow collectors? Man, I hate that my "real" life is keeping me from enjoying my obsession with little plastic soldiers. Just my little rant. Feel free to let me know what you think.

I think just the fact that you are trying to help others out is great. So what if it Takes a while to ship? It's not like you are sending them a kidney or a gallon of milk. At the end of the day, real line has to come first, and people who don't understand that probably don have a real life.

Real life comes first period.
If it precludes you from hunting for toys for grown up nerds, well they will live without them. It's very nice that you are helping others but you CANNOT let it get in the way of real life responsibilities. |

Seriously, both sides should understand that shipping times and such may not be as streamlined as a real business, especially if you tell them so up front. If it helps, I've been in the middle of a deal with a guy on another forum for about 1 1/2 years now. He paid for an Indy figure then I told him I had another figure he wanted and he said he'd get a list of go-bots to trade to me for the figure and I'd ship both to save on the shipping.....still waiting on that list of Go-Bots But it's all cool as we both understand, real life comes first and the deal will get resolved at some point I only get irritated when people stop responding to emails/pm's |

I think that what you do (helping out other collectors) is great, it's people like you that make the hobby and this site better. Yes real life comes first, and if some people don't understand this, and don't appreciate your gesture, then move on and trade with people who will understand and appreciate. This is only a hobby, we are talking about toys here. Anybody who wants their end of a trade for yesterday should be avoided, these people are the ones that take the fun out of this hobby.

I have to agree that if you're helping out other fans, thats great. As far as taking a longer to ship because real life gets in the way, completely understandable but I would make sure all people involved are aware of whats going on and when you'll be shipping. As long you let them know, then I cant see them having an issue with it.

As long as you're following through, no reason to feel bad. If you were taking several weeks to get stuff out, maybe, but anything up to a week I figure is a part of doing business with someone online. I've waited several weeks (in a few cases over a month or two) for things, and it's no big deal if I know it's coming and I trust the 'Tanker. I've also been guilty of taking a week to ship something out, and almost universally, 'Tankers are very cool about it. Real life happens. As long as you're not taking advantage of anyone, you should have no worries mate!
