For Cobra: I think Heavy Armor is Baroness' chastity belt. Everyone thinks she is all slutty because of the bondage suit but she's really a tease and c!ock 'olcker. Zarana on the other hand, what you see is what you get - I don't she even wears pants underneath those jeans.

As a rapid response elite force I would not expect there to be a lot of heavy armor. Tanks are big and heavy and thus very diffiult to transport to action locations quickly. The C5 or C17 can only transport 1 tank per plane. And those planes also need a large runway. Smaller, lighter, faster vehicles serve a rapid response force better.
The Armadillo is too small really to even be considered a light tank. It's more of a light armoured reconnaissance vehicle. The only way I can buy the HAVOC as an actual military vehicle is to think of it as some kind of experimental artillery weapon. It's very lightly armoured for one thing (it's got a glass cockpit for crying out loud), and there's really no reason to have a flying recon sled type thing except for over-the-horizon, third-person targeting for indirect fire. The Stun also - light recce, general purpose type of vehicle. Good for fast hit and run attacks, but that's basically it. Basically think of it as that jeep-like thing in Halo, except with three wheels. I wouldn't classify the Rage as heavy armour at all. It's an armoured car - albeit with a fairly big twin guns - but still just an armoured car. Cobra really doesn't do heavy armour either, it would seem. Makes sense as a terrorist group I suppose. Despite the acronym, I can't picture the ASP in any sort of "assault" role - it would seem to be primarily defensive in nature, no?

The MOBAT was terrible 30 years ago for christ's sake. The Mauler has always been better
Also I love how whenever armor, rank or any of this real-world bullshit gets brought up, dudes bring mad knowledge about this stuff, I look at the Havoc and think "gee this is fun!"

Just watched a show on History channel about (what else?) those wacky nazis. Turns out that among the crazy ideas the Fuhrer had for war weaponry was what can only be descried as a land-based battleship. I was basically just a tank, but scaled up to frightening proportions.
How big? Put the The Pt next to an Armadillo. That's how big this thing was next to a Tiger, and it mounted battleship guns as its main artillery. As the war turned against the so-called master race, funding for the awesome but improbable weapon dried up and it was never finished. Nevertheless, I would seriously like to see this adapted to Cobra's uses as a counter to the Pit or even the Flag. |

Technicaly both of the JOES main battle tanks are light-medium armor tanks. Which makes alot of sense since Larry Hama portrayed GI JOE as a "Rapid reaction force". So any armor they have would need to be light wieght enough to be transported by aircraft.
The Mobat is based on the Sheriden Light tank used in Vietnam and Gulf war one. It had a 152 mm main gun system that was most often used to fire giant shot gun shells at massed infantry. Its armor was only about 1 inch thick, making it light enough to air drop from a C-130 cargo plane. The Mauler is based on a much more advanced prototype that would have replaced the Sheriden, if the joint chiefs had just put it into production.... The Mauler was a high speed all aluminum welded armor, medium tank. It had a Hypervelocity 75 mm main gun that could kill a Russian tank at ranges up to 7 miles, and double as anti aircraft artillery. It was also supposed to be air droppable from a C-130 cargo plane. However it also had state of the art laser range finder, rear view TV camera, and optional reactive armor add on package. The Armadillo was based on a real light wieght anti tank vehicle. It was called the "Ontos" which is Greek for "Thing". It was deployed in Korea and Viet Nam, before it was quietly taken out of service. Its only weekness was that it had to be loaded from outside the vehicle. The original looked very much like the "Slaughter's Marauders" version. It was armed with 6 105 mm recoiless rifles. But there was also plans to make one with 4, 50 caliber machine guns also. Thats a lot of whoop ass for such a small tank! It was also light & small enough to drop out of a C-130 cargo plane. If you think of the HISS tank the way its name describes it, then its definately not heavy armor. since it stands for High Speed Sentry. BUT in the comics and cartoon it was definately protrayed as slow moving heavy armor... Although, the HISS II looked the part of heavy armor more than any other cobra tank. I always thought of the HISS tanks as slow moving heavy armor. I would like to see Cobra have a former Soviet T-72 as their main battle tank. The first issue of the Comic showed several soviet tanks ready to defend the old spanish fort on Cobra island. Last edited by IronMan76; 04-02-2010 at 01:54 AM.. |

Having said that, Joes by far have the best armor, but it's really just a question as to how often they get to use it. Cobra is supposed to strike quickly and lethally, and the Joes are supposed to fight in turn; really, I think the only reason the Patriot Grizzly saw use in SpyTroops was because the Cobras were in relatively close range to the PITT (which brings up entirely new questions...).
