While I agree with most of your assessments Tom, I kind of take offense to lower enlisted being called "bottom of the barrell". There are plenty of crap NCO's and Officers in the service, and plenty of fine lower enlisted soldiers. Most of my NCO chain was completely clueless. I had to train them when they got to our unit. Most were pencil pushing desk jockeys who knew how to play the game, and by that I know you know the type I mean.
I guess I could have chosen a more flattering term, but I meant no offense, especially considering I came into the Army as a PV1! ; D But if you stacked the ranks in - let's say a barrel - E-1 through E-4 would be found at the bottom. I meant it strictly as an illustration, not an assessment of skills. Tom

Please stop talking. The amount of insider information that you have is exactly zero.
Know how I know this? Because you posted a declassified flyer which was meant for fun as a NEWS ITEM. No one would ever tell you anything because the VERY FIRST THING you would do is post it here. Probably incorrectly. |

I've never been in the Forces, so I really don't know...
What's the difference between rank and grades? I've noticed some JOEs who are E-4 Specialists hold the rank of Sgt, while most other E-4s are Corporals. Who bows down to who between an E-4 Spec. Sgt, and an E-5 Sgt? And for the likes of Duke who has "turned down promotions", do they still bump him up a paygrade while keeping his rank at 1SG? For my own Dios, I've bumped up a lot to fit their "priority" in my stories (Flash is now an E-7, cause he's my fave, Flint is an E-8 simply cause (gasp) I'm following the ROC Duke and making him an O-4 Major) Just need more to go on. |

Well, considering I never served, and I take what I can from the toons and file cards, Flint was 2nd in command, when I booted Duke up to 0-4, someone needed to fill the void. as a Warrent Officer/NCO, Flint's rank held no value. Place him as an E-*, he'd have the authority that Duke had pre-promotion.
A lot of the characters in my dios have gotten jumped, and that's why I started this thread. To make the promos a bit more realistic (I jumped Flash from E-4/5 to E-7 simply cause he's one of my main characters and wanted him to have a modicum of authority)
