Know how I know this? Because you posted a declassified flyer which was meant for fun as a NEWS ITEM. No one would ever tell you anything because the VERY FIRST THING you would do is post it here. Probably incorrectly. |

Of course the figures look has a lot to do with his popularity.
Name one Joe who's popularity wasn't first based on the look of the figure. That was the whole thing behind the upset over Ripcord and Dial-Tone. They changed the look. It's an action figure line, a cartoon and a comic book. Look is probably the most important distingushing characteristic that drives the popularity.

Look, BH and I have been at this since 1986. I don't really see an end to it.

For the record, I like Beachhead fine. I just wanted to have some fun.
What amazes me is the vitriol. You guys still aren't ready for the wonders I wish to bestow upon you. Maybe someday.

For those huge Beachhead fans out there, I apologize, but I feel compelled to point out what, to me, is an example of accidental marketing and exposure MAKING a character.
Beachhead is not important. He's not the 4th in command of the GI Joe team. He's a Staff Sergeant. An E-6. About two or more DOZEN incidental Joes, many of which BH fans have never heard of, outrank him. Some of these include- Falcon Windmill Ace Wild Bill Cutter Ghost Rider Gung Ho Leatherneck Shipwreck (to reiterate) SHIPWRECK Super Trooper Major Storm Colonel Courage Psyche-Out Torpedo Lift-Ticket And many others. WHY is Beachhead so popular? Beach Head barely had any speaking parts in his initial comic book appearances. His rank isn't particularly high. His figure was one of the least interesting (IMHO) of the 1986 line. (I kept trying not to buy him, but time after time I would go back to the store and he'd be the only Joe on the pegs). 1. Beachhead has become the "Joe Firefly." Not because of who he is or his specialty. Indeed, there are MANY other Rangers on the team. Beachhead simply has a very similar uniform to Firefly, with only the colors and certain pieces of gear differing substantially. 2. Beachhead was (for no apparent reason) named by Flint in that early scene from ARISE SERPENTOR ARISE as #4. Why? Who knows. However, based PURELY on that short UNBELIEVEABLY CHEESILY EXPOSITORY bit from that episode ("First comes Hawk, then Duke, THEN ME, and then finally, you.") which was clearly stuffed in to explain who TF the new guys were, about a million nerds decided that this essentially offhand comment, nailed down so succinctly, would be canon. Beachhead is no one special. In the cartoons, he was the guy that trained new recruits in 1987 and couldn't keep Duke's brother in line. Tunnel Rat and Big Lob made him lose his temper. Chuckles didn't listen to him AT ALL. Order almost killed him. Jinx beat the crap out of him. Blindfolded. If you like Beachhead, that's fine. More power to you. I like him fine now. However, I hate revisionist history, so I'm here to tell it like it is: A middle enlisted man is, in the grand scheme of things, not particularly high on the totem pole. If GI Joe is basically the same thing as Ninja Turtles to you, then surf on and eat some pizza. Thanks for your time.
