I've alway been curious as to how large an organization Cobra really is? While, I've never been a fan of the cartoon, it's the only place that I can find that ever hinted at it's size. In an episode that CC is abducted and placed on some Island with menacing toys, he mentions that he runs and organization of 5,000 men. Again I take the cartoon with a grain of salt, however, that number just seems a little small, doesn't it?
My question to all of you is, How big do you think Coba's numbers really are? Break it down by Branch, and by sub group if you really want to get technial. I"m curious to hear what you all think. What is the size of Cobra's Civilian population (Springfield/Cobra Island, Broca Beach)? Navy - (Eels, Sea Slugs, Snow Serpents, hydro Vipers, Secto Viper, Decimtors, etc) Army - Air Force Crimson Guard Corps Intelligence branches . |

As far as Cobra's Civilian population goes. I'm thinking around 5, to 7k tops. I'm basing that on how small Springfield was and how small Cobra Island was and then the relocation of their Civilians to the very small beach front town of Broca Beach.

As far as the civilian population of Springfield, they have an airport (a local one), multilevel hospital, etc. This reminds me of my town, population 35,000+.
For the troops, I could see around 5,000, spread over the world in small cells. There would be higher amounts in Springfield and Cobra Island. CGs would be 100 or less, so CC knows about everyone of their activities.

I was thinking the Army was around 15k, CGs about 500, Air Force around 1k and Navy around 800, Intelligence around 1,200

I developed a theory a few years ago. For those of us old timers who remember the early issues of the comic book, there was a contradiction in the ideology of Cobra compared to what it eventually wound up as. There seemed to be a cultist possibly Marxist slant in some of the exchanges between members along with a number of suicidal gestures in stories prior to issue 10. In later years, we learned that Cobra was a pyramid scheme with purely capitalist goals. I wonder if in addition to a cadre of mercenary members that there are cells of terrorist members with misguided notions of what Cobra really represents. (Marxist-Leninism, Islam, Fascism, etc)
What do you guys think?

The Terrordrome in the cartoon alone looks like it could crew a few-hundred. If they had smaller bases around the world then the numbers could easily run in the thousands.

Yeah, that Terror Drome in the cartoon, looked like it could hold thousands!
I remember those early issues of the comic, the troops were more loyal to Cobra from what appeared to be an ideology/cultist than capitalist greed. As of issue 10 and after it was definitely more Capitalist greed centric. |
