Something I've pondered for years, and quite frankly, this forum is the first time I've really run into a large group knowledgeable of G.I. Joe other then collecting figures, so if this has been beat to death in another thread: mah bad.
Is that really a prosthetic arm or some sort of armour? The later figures of him, especially the horrid Freddy Mercury on 'roids HOF 11" one, ignore the original altogether. Thoughts?

Since it only has a thumb and two fingers, I have always assumed it's some sort of prosthetic..

he wears an eye patch and yes has that odd arm, i alway though it was armor over his arm. As if he was hurt so used to to protect himself, he could use that had to shot so i never thought it wasnt real. Plus cobra can build bats it he did lose an arm i really dont think major bludd of all people would have an arm that didnt do something.

I think it was a prosthetic by choice so he could hold his rocket launcher pistol and target with deadly accuracy. It would have a monsteorus kick to fire that kinda rocket weapon plus expect it to hit with any precision would be a fat chance without a stable launching platform since guided mutions were just being developed/improved for aircraft (fire and forget, ground tracking radar etc.) during that time and mostly stuff of future sci-fi. Like that gun the bad guy had in Runaway with Tom Selick, he had that big arse gun that fired those heat seeking projectiles..and to think it's the 21st century 2010 and we still do not have such tech lol...but as with most joe stuff...it as never explained....nor will the reason he was gutted like a "fish" in Resolute :(

Crimson, fair idea about keeping a str8 arm to fire a weapon like that, and yes the toys are doesnt bend or didnt, however i am sure some tankers and show us some pics from the cartoons or comic with him bending his arm. ok so maybe he is not hanging out with overkill these days but no movement in the arm as a cobra feild officer i dont know seemed more like an over sight in the orginal mold to me.

but as for Bludd himself (non-toy) how can you tell me you dont think he could move his arm, i do agree with your idea about the weapon, a thought i never had to be fair, but what he is the only cobra with an injury, an arm and an eye, seem a bit much for such an early cobra enemy. as much as we dont want to compare the toys to the comics or such all the time, i would bet it does show him moving his arm.
Maybe half and half? Crimson? |

Never thought it was cybernetic. Odd armor over his arm with a weird three fingered glove. Usually this sort of this is mentioned on their filecards. Since it wasn't, I figured it's not robotic.

I think it would be a movable arm, not a total stiff arm in application, just reinforced/powered along the actual human joints as a overlay prostethitc, kinda like a partial Power armor suit, but just one arm. That is how I always looked at it like his arm got amputaed in an explosion, he survived and why I always liked the character, badass mofo with robo arm karate chop or super strength to throw your arse across the room
