The S.A.W. viper entry was funny. The rest were slightly amusing. TR is usually much better than this list would indicate.

The Joes weren't much better off at times. Funskool Tripwire comes to mind. Gads what dark times.

Actually I like the Alley Viper pattern and colors. I think they would be useful for a situation you would find an Alley Viper in, it's not like he's trying to blend into the back ground. It's sort of the idea behind digital patterns, to break up the silhouette.

They are such bad asses that they don't need to hide. Just like why Stormy wears white. It's like "Here I am. Just try messing with me!"

Mind you, most if not all of the figures are from the dreaded 90's. The late 90's was a time of loud-ass colors, and silly sic-fi features! Attacking the paint job is just too easy! It like picking on the “special needs” kids! Much like how a good repaint of the Ice Cream Soldier produced a much better looking Shock Viper, many of these Vipers would look much better with different colors.
The '94 Viper would look better in navy blue (“Cobra blue” in the comics) then purple. The gloves and lagging should be black. The orange should be black, save for the face plate – that should be chrome silver (gold for leaders). Secto-Viper was called out for the codpiece. I could overlook this, seeing how it was not painted orange – that would just draw too much attention! This figure would look better white, silver, or light grays – such colors are good for spacesuits. The Gyro-Viper was called out the purple ski masks and shoulder harness, and he is right. Black would look much better! The Toxo-Viper suit is loud as hell, but when you deal with toxic waste, you should dress in something that draws attention to you. After all, this is also a punishment detail! Sea foam fail! LOL!!! That is a good one! Bright blue dont work for ninjas. Black or red (or the mix of them – see Shock Vipers bellow) would look much better! The S.A.W. Viper would look much better in some sort of camouflage, or darker colors (like the 06 SAW-Viper). As for the Range- Frag- & Flak-Vipers, I only got one thing to say: Operation Flaming M.O.T.H. (see: 1, 2, and 3) Being another toxic waste viper, the colors of the Sludge-Viper should be loud – if anything, it should look brighter! LOL If it was painted in darker colors with the faceplate staying red, then it would look like a really menacing Cobra stormtrooper (as another toxic waste viper is vary redundant). I have no major issue with the Python Patrol color scheme, like what is on the Python Tele-Viper. Light gray might have been a better alternative to sun yellow. I cant think of a way to repaint the Heli-Viper without making it look like a cheap repaint of a Snow Serpent. Plus, this is a redundant figure, as there are Gyro-Vipers, Air-Vipers, Air Troopers, and other cobra troops who are trained in helicopters (I think Cobra is trying to over specialized). The Ally-Viper would look amazing in in urban camos (black and grays). Even with an orange & blue pattern, it could still work as a “pattern-breaker.” A pattern-breaker (or “Dazzle” for ships) dose not actually hide the trooper, but breaks up his shape and silhouette to make visual identification more difficult. Such a pattern is usually used with large units, like tanks or battleships. The Cyber-Viper is the worst of them all! No amount of repainting could help this one! Is that a feeding tube at his mouth? A Cyber-Viper is actually a good idea as an advanced Tele-Viper, with the ability to coordinate battlefield communication, conduct electronic warfare, and operate drone units (BATs, remote-controlled Flight Pods & CLAW gliders) – all mentally! It just need to look better – something more Gibsom. ;) The Shock Vipers I noted above come in a dark blue with red, and red with black color scheme. This looks much better then the loud-ass orange with yellow scheme of the Ice Cream Soldier. Last edited by Malcadon; 03-04-2010 at 04:41 AM.. |

So, I'm claiming they were all designed by a young Matt Murdock...
What's weird is that the orange/blue Alley Viper has somehow grown on me in the past two decades or so... it's like he's supposed to be a 'target' Viper that everyone aims at or their trying to shock their opponents with the audacity to wear such colors.... Umm... Gaurdsmen arn't vipers.
