^^^^ The fact that you think I'm demeaning you means you're too emotionally involved in this to accept a point of view outside your own experience.
"Opinion" is overrated. Like I said, yours is based solely on personal experience, while I would prefer to try and look at things from a less subjective approach. No need to get offended by that - if you do, maybe you should avoid discussion altogether, as its likely to happen again in any number of conversations.

GI Joe is supposed to be military. I know that they were marketing more for children, but I wanted real military type stuff. So to me, the first 4 or 5 waves were great, and after that, it's like they were reaching. It seemed like to me that they couldn't decide if it was going to stay more realistic or go sci-fi.

The cartoon went to far when it had the Cobras like Destro, Baroness and Zartan readily excepting that it was okay to let Golobulous and Cobra-La destroy and mutate the world.
The concept of Cobra-La isn't really that different from weather dominators, giant tube worms at the bottom of the ocean guarding "heavy" water, giant incan statues that come to life and fight giant snake robots, mass devices, pyramids of darkness, giant pyramid like fortresses that rise out of the ground, mutating soldiers into killer whales, dimensional travel and battling ghosts just to name a few. The comic with Serpentor. The comic was always grounded more in reality and Serpentor and clones was just too much. Zartan used masks and holograms. It just got worse when became G.I. Joe featuring Snake-Eyes.

Thanks for the suggestion, Dprime. I had forgotten about the ignore button.
Tyronos, thanks for bringing us back to the question. I agree that Marvel 49 did take the comic to a very different place. I believe that was one of the last comics I bought from GI Joe (until I was an adult).

GI Joe went to far by making Sgt Slaughter Superman. I hated Slaughter as a wrestler and on Gi JOe. Hell, I remember Coco beware kicking his ass on WWF and I remember thinking "Man, Cobra sucks. They can't even beat up a guy that lost to the jobber"
EDIT: See! Slaughter can kill 50 Cobra Bats but can't beat this man? |

EDIT: See! Slaughter can kill 50 Cobra Bats but can't beat this man? But yeah you are right Sgt. Slaughter was a step in the wrong direction. He did a lot of good but they made him out to be way too much. When would I say GI Joe went too far? Comic- over use of ninjas. Ninja this, ninja that... way too much. Cartoons- Started with Sgt. Slaughter and Serpentor and jumped the shark with Cobra la. Slaughter would have worked if they toned him down some. |

I thought the DEF concept was great, it made sense. Many criminal organizations fund themselves through drug sales.
I have to say overall I like it all even the stupid stuff, if they re-issued eco warriors I'd buy'em |
