I was at Toys R' Us looking for random stuff. Mostly Joe stuff.
I hear from behind me a man talking about the original G.I. Joe toys. I turn around and see an old man, in his 70's, talking about G.I. Joe. He had a mustache, big glasses, and a cap that said "U.S. Army Infantry". He was the kind of man that made you feel emasculated just from looking at him. Kinda like Jack Palance, but less corpsey. This man clearly had seen battle. Here was a very seasoned veteran of the U.S. Army talking about how he used to collect G.I. Joes. He even mentioned that he still had the original G.I. Joe pilot, still unopened. He got it when it was brand new. He also talked about a bunch of Johnny Hero figures he has either MIB or practically brand new. He said he was gonna give all that stuff to his son which is cool. He didn't want to sell it. He even gave me advice about Roth IRA's, haha. I dunno, it was just cool. How often do you see old Army vets strolling around a Toys R' Us? I see old school military vets all the time, but that's the first I met that said he had G.I. Joes. |

Did this guy have a nickname by chance? Like, oh I don't know, Joe or maybe Duke?!

Hm, let's see...he's too young to have been in WWII so I'm guessing if he was in the army, and he's in his 70's maybe the Korean War? Ok, now...hm... How about Foxhole? |

I shook his hand before we went our ways.
If I ever see him again I'll give him a Yo Joe, at the total expense of my pride, haha. I'm sure everyone in the area would think I was a huge dork. Which is true, but I don't need everyone thinking that. |
