What drives me crazy is the fact that in the comic, Storm Shadow's DNA was used, yet it was never touched on again EVER! So in the DD run, Serpentor had a psychic link to all his clones, but why not Stormy? After all, he IS part of him.......I figured it would have made for a GREAT story......

By the end his own generals wanted him dead and out of the way.

Mindbender is a bit like Rasputin. A little scientist and little magician, and alway scheming. Maybe the idea of Hitler it is too controversial to touch upon in a kids cartoon.

Same goes for Stalin, he was a complete amateur and an absolute terrible miltary strategist (wiping out most of his best commanders out of paranoia, ignoring intel confirmed from numerous sources, etc) Even if these guys weren't responsible for so many atrocities relatively recently, they simply aren't up to scratch compared with history's greatest warriors/leaders. |

As for Serpentor needing his way with the masses - well, he already has both Henry V and Gaius Julius Cesar; both of whom were not only excellent strategists and tacticians, but also incredibly popular leaders. Our modern word "Emperor" comes from "Imperiator," which just means "leader." Imperiator is a title no-one could simply take - it was awarded by the army, through popular acclaim. The out-of-character reason, of course, being that Hitler was and still is the greatest villain of our time. No toy company is going to take the risk of identifying themselves with him, and it was even worse 25 years ago when our grandparents were not simply still alive, but a significant, active segment of the population. Everyone I know has at least one parent or grandparent who fought in World War 2. All the others are dead history, or - as you point out with your comments on Rasputin - fairly minor historical figures.

Why HASBRO didn't add Hitler to the mix, is obvious and has already been stated. This should be common sence.
Why COBRA did not use Hitler, makes sence as well, in that he would detract more than he'd add. When you already have far greater Generals, why water it down? I don't think the idea was to just collect ever jerk off in history. They were trying to create the perfect General, not perfect evil. |

i disagree with the whole "too early" thing. Captain America has been fighting Nazis since the 40's and there has never been a problem with the "subject" being a main staple in his book. Even when now with Cap dead and Bucky taking the job, nazis are still a huge problem to the captain america book. I don't see a difference between the captain america character and the gi joes. well besides the time period.
it would have been the same but with many "all american boys" (meaning the joe team) fighting what that tyrant helped start. When theres a flag involved and someone fighting for that flag it reminds people what we are fighting for. Freedom... |
