I've noticed a lot of Tankers seem very passionate about what is "bible" as far as the GI Joe universe is concerned.
That is to say, who's version of the story is the correct one, and who got it wrong? Let's find out what we think. |

i one day will tie them all together somehow in a neat little story. oh it can be done (and i mean all of it arah, vvv, gvc, spy, roc, even sigma barf...could be the "next generation or whatever"). especialy if cobra commander is 1000 years old from the much hated cobra-la. But as for now, it is looking at seperate realities, like with some folks do in relationships, ha ha. i lean to the catroon, but only becuase i have just now started reading all the awesome little comics. but growing up the toon (and only a few epsisodes and the toon movie) and the file cards where all i had exposure to,oh wait... and i did have a couple old comics. and actualy that was enough to inspire a great love affair about everything of these little dolls. COBRA!

Both have their strengths, both have their weaknesses.
There is no right or wrong. The true bible is the filecards, but even those are inconsistent and don't follow the "rules" (rankings, etc..). So really, Joe is completly open to be whatever anyone wants it to be.

I don't think any one universe is more official than the next, and consider all of them to have their strengths and weaknesses.
As a kid I watched the toon. I read Devil's Due from start to finish as it was released and am currently reading IDW amd the Marvel reprints. It's all good to me, but find Sigma Six to be the weakest interpretation. |

Since Hama created the characters, the story he wrote for Marvel would be the definitive story of GI Joe. But I'd like to think that all other versions could be brought together to make one sweet universe. I've even thought of the Joe code names as sort of 007 deals, where others could step in to fill the shoes of those that did before. And I like the idea that Joe isn't confined to the US, but are connected to other units worldwide, such as Action Force and Argen 7.

Although I love the cartoon i have to say it's garbage. The comic is actually pretty good. I have most of the marvel run and have read them several times.

Hama wrote what became the filecards as a way of keeping the characters that Hasbro created straight in his head so that he wouldn't get confused when he wrote the comic. I like where you're going with amalgamating the universes. I also like you're idea about the codenames and had the same thought as well. |
