I choose ala cart.
All have good points and bad points for instance: In my world Snake Eyes isn't the end all be all master ninja and all ninjas are not part of Storm Shadow's family dojo. Cobra Commander originally was a used car salesman, however, he does get mutated by Golobulus into a snake man |

I'll go with the Sunbow cartoon because that's what I'm most familiar with. I've never read the comic book and didn't even know it existed until sometime in the mid-90s.
But, aside from Sigma 6, I think all the versions of G.I. Joe have contributed something worthwhile towards the franchise as a whole. |

I have my own Joe-Verse but as far as what I regard as true Joe canon, it's the original Marvel run. It's what I always refer non-Joes to as source material.
I love Sunbow but some of it didn't age very well, but the Marvel comic I think stood the test of time.

Comic is the real deal. But I like the cartoon a lot, too.

I don't know. I loved the comic, atleast what I read of it in the first 5 years. There were some odd stuff in the comics too, not as bad as the cartoon, but as a kid, you kind of just go with it. The cartoon was good fun, and was a treat when you stayed home from school sick and were stuck on the couch. As far as "canon" I favored the comic, but a kids imagination being what it is I just made my own adventures. Actually, I do that now, too.
From what I heard LH made alot of changes to many characters that had I continued to read the comic, probably would have made me dig it alot less. I still have many issues in a box in my mom's attic. The last issue I had was 66, one of my favorites. Most of them have been read so much that they are almost trashed. I loved that book growing up. However, I like the new IDW series more then the Marvel run, tbh. I think it has just as much to do with the storytelling, as it does my age, though. Great book, especially the Cobra mini.

I use my own "verse." I'm probably mostly inspired by the cartoons, but I try to pay attention to the file cards. There are some characters who's existence I completely ignore, because they're superfluous. (Serpentor and Flint come to mind) Other things (like Cobra-La) get reworked, because they never made sense, in their original incarnation.
I also ignore any and all attempts to redeem Storm Shadow. He's a villain, plain and simple. I may even decide to make Snake Eyes the traitor to the Arishikage, on the grounds that ninja work is generally morally questionable, and Snakes didn't like it. I never could wrap my head around the whole "heroic ninja" bit. My main sticking points are ONE: ninjas are martial artists, not super heroes/villains. They routinely get their heads handed to them, because there's really nothing special about them. They're not incompetent, they're just not any better than the next black belt. And TWO: The universe does not revolve around any one character. The Marvel comics did this with Snake Eyes, and the movie tried to do it with Duke. These guys don't have to have a personal history, to know that they're on opposite sides of the fence. |

[QUOTE=CLASSIFIED;1378622]Actualy, Hama didn't create the characters, someone at Hasbro did.
Hama wrote what became the filecards as a way of keeping the characters that Hasbro created straight in his head so that he wouldn't get confused when he wrote the comic. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Actually Larry Hama did create the characters for the first couple of years. When Hasbro first talked to Hama at Marvel all they had as far as characters was a guy holding a bazooka called "Bazooka soldier", another guy with a laser gun called "Laser trooper", ect. Larry gave them all code name's, real name's and backgrounds. When Hasbro learned about this they thought it would be a good idea to put that information on the back of the packageing. Hasbro then asked Larry to write the file cards. Durring one of the first meetings Larry Hama asked Hasbro "who is the bad guy in the story?" Hasbro did not have one. Hama created Cobra. |
