This is probably old news by now, but Larry Hama didn't know about the "Knowing is half the battle" PSA tagline until August '09!

Larry knew nothing about the cartoon, he avoided it with a passion.
That's pretty funny that it it was only recently that he heard about it.

lol, can you imagine how confusing that would be, for people to say that to you every where you went for half your life, and have no idea why?
I wonder why he never asked anyone in all those 25 years...

Yeah, that's the part that gets me.
I assume he figured it had something to do with the cartoon, just not what part, and didn't want to appear like he didn't know. I don't think it was common knowledge during the comic years that he didn't know anything of the cartoon. But imagine that. At a con or something and saying it to the Joe "Godfather" and he just looked at you like you're nuts. That is too damn funny.

The sad part is that it probably happens more than we know, in all genres, and all forms of media/entertainment.

Fanboys, like us, tend to forget that the creators are people to with their own likes/dislikes, etc.. For something that is a passion for us, for others it's a job.

Yeah, I crack up every time I picture a fanboy like myself getting all excited because you're talking to the creator of freakin' GI Joe, and he just said something to you that's perfect for you to reply with "...and knowing is half the battle" , and then Hama just stares at you like "um.. ok... sure... next in line...?"

Or the classic SNL sketch with Shatner. They're asking him specific questions and he flips
"MOVE OUT OF YOUR PARENT'S BASEMENT!!"

My first reaction is to say "who can blame him"
However, his avoidance may have been artistic in nature. He may have not want to be influenced albeit subtly, by the cartoon. |
