I collected Joes when I was younger but when I moved some got lost and I got older. The 25th line got me going again and I bought whatever I wanted. I remember seing new Joes on the shelf and I had to have them. When the walmart exclusives came out I wanted them all, of course when you find them you have no cash. I got the Outpost Defender set and was happy. I was at walmart today and found the other 3 sets for 6 or 7 bucks each, a Night Raven for 10 bucks(marked wrong), and the 2 packs for 6 bucks and sme change. I didn't even want to buy it. I don't even want to collect Joes anymore. My question is what happen to me?

I am not addicted anymore. I got my collection from going out and hunting the Joes. I guess since nothing new is out, I don't have the want or excitement anymore. I honestly don't even want the Joes I have. Burnout I guess.

The 25th anniversary was tapping into something great. When they redesigned everything from the ground up, they lost something. If it isn't broken why fix it? Hasbro still thinks they can do better and so they mismatch things and make different story lines or 'mythologies' to use the niche word. Bottom line is all the changes are tiring and anyone who is passionate about ARAH, they stand a good chance of being alienated with all the so called 'improvements' to the mythology. Only one way to counteract this force. Hit em in the wallet. Quit buying it and that is what I did. Don't worry if you are addicted, that urge will reemerge once some good Joes come out!

Personally, I find this can happen if one collects just one toy line...after awhile it get's pretty boring seeing a rehash of the same characters, especially if the new releases tend to be unappealing.
That's why I try to have an eclectic collection from many different toy lines buying what I like or something I remember having as a kid if for nothing else but the sake of nostalgia. Because of this collecting style, I usually collect in phases...like right now I'm in GI Joe cycle. In a few months I'll probably focus on another aspect of my collection, however the only drawback to doing this is it get's pretty expensive. Last edited by optimus12380; 01-08-2010 at 02:15 AM.. |

I just got out of the Navy, so I started collecting 25th figures very late.
How late? I started collecting when they werent even making them anymore. but I loved the show, and I always remembered Shipwreck. So I visited ebay, and one Joe needed friends....so I added more of the characters I liked. While ignoring the ones I didnt care for. I also try to hunt down the toon accurate figures. well, once I got the gist of locating and collecting the figures... I needed some bases, and cars and boats and such for them to drive around in. oh..and as for those wal mart bases... I always try to find just the bases loose on ebay....I've no need for more figures of characters I already have. |

You should have bought those Battle Stations and sent them to me! *tantrum*
I collected way too much for way too long. I've narrowed it down to (mostly) Joe stuff now. Sometimes you just outgrow something (and that's not a statement of age or maturity or anything). It does sound like maybe you had a bout of an obsessive disorder or an addiction. You probably still have it, just hasn't been exposed tot he right trigger. |

I recognize this syndrome, it's called the "I must have it because it's hot" virus.
