Everyone check out your closest Redbox. These DVD vending machines currently carry both Transformers 1 and 2 for just $1 each (see these 2 movies with ROC). In TF 1 and 2, you will see what appears to be many subtle G.I.Joe references / connections.
THINGS TO WATCH FOR (SPOILERS): 1. COMPUTER WHIZ KIDS (a la Resolute). Just like Resolute, the TF movies star computer kids who work the military. More computer whiz kids continue appearing in the TF sequel. Shia's/Sam's room-mate asks "are you a (computer) Techie?" TF stars computer savvy kids; not-too-far like those found in Resolute. Will such similar computer kids continue to play a pivotal role for a future ripe for "cross-over" between the 2 franchises? 2. TF's "SECTOR 7 'DOESN'T EXIST'." - listen for this quote in TF Just like G.I. Joe "DOESN"T EXIST" - listen for that quote in ROC Sector 7. Sigma 6. Both do not exist... 3. OSPREYS (both propeller and jet-powered Ospreys). These vehicles seem to provide visual/aesthetic likenesses for both opening and closing scenes for both franchise movies. 4. One of the Twins (Skidz or Mudflap) exclaimed in comic-relief about his "Kung-Fu Grip" in the ROF. "Kung-Fu Grip" is an obvious Classic Joe trademark. And, the "Kung-Fu Grip" was similarly used as comic-relief in ROC, as well. 5. PROXIMITY OF BAD GUYS: Megatron was found in the ARCTIC (Destro's hide-out filled with high-tech vehicles; coincidentally hidden in the ARCTIC). 6. PROXIMITY OF GOOD GUYS. The Pitt is hidden in the EGYPTIAN DESERT. The ancient bots who sacrificed their lives in the "Tomb of the Primes" hiding the Matrix are also; hidden in the same EGYPTIAN DESERT. Do all these subtle connections mean something? If so, it would follow the great tradition of subtle connections that existed back in the 80s cartoons; Wikipedia: "Flint also has a connection to the Transformers series. Fans speculated for two decades that the character, Marissa Faireborn, in Transformers is his daughter. A point for this speculation is they both share the same last name. In "The Killing Jar," she encounters an illusory version of her father, he was voiced by the same actor as Flint in the G.I. Joe series, Bill Ratner. The writers of both shows to remained coy whether Marissa Faireborn was actually Flint and Lady Jaye's daughter or not. However, cast notes for "The Killing Jar" refer to Marissa's father as being "a 60-year-old Flint". The mystery was finally solved on November 7, 2006, with the 20th anniversary DVD release of Transformers: The Movie. On an interview on the DVD, Flint Dille, story editor for Transformers, confirmed that Marissa Faireborn is indeed Flint and Lady Jaye's daughter (Wikipedia: article on Flint)." Again, do all these possible subtle connections (similar Computer Kids, similar military groups that don't exist, and the close proximity of combatants - good and bad) mean anything? Can all of this can lead to ripe ground for cross-overs between the 2 franchises? Once again, check out TF 1 & 2 while their still at your local RedBox. Finally, post your findings below. redbox - the closest RedBox near you Last edited by Tuskegee Joe; 01-01-2010 at 02:23 AM.. |

Shadowninja: I have to agree. I believe it to be more of a coincidence than a direct reference. Now, the about the "kung-fu grip", well that could be. But even that is stretching it.
Tuskegee Joe: Sorry bro, not meaning to rain on your parade. Those ideas would be great, but I really don't think that's a direct reference. |

No apologies needed. Like I said. I could be wrong.
Prior to posting, tho, please simply take the time to go back and enjoy all 3 movies again (together). Last edited by Tuskegee Joe; 12-29-2009 at 08:37 PM.. |

I'd rather not suffer through the second Transformers or ROC again... and that.. point for effort, but minus two for trying too hard

That's the spirit. Keep an open-mind and a sharp-eye out for similarities. Personally for me, those Ospreys carrying soldiers in TF & ROC just keep coming to mind. Do see how both movies seem to mirror these visuals / vehicles...
Again, they could be coincidences. Could be more. Who knows? |
