Over the years, we have had Joes from just about every type military career; Snipers, Pilots, Medics, Infantry, Administration, Airborne, Cooks, and various others. We've seen people recruited from some of the most legendary parts of USSOCOM: the SEALs, Rangers, Green Berets, Delta, and so on. And with the movie's shifting of the line to focus even more on pseudo-realistic portrayals of the military, we can expect to see even more of this (hopefully).
So my question is, will we just see more and more Soldiers, or will the Airmen, Marines, and Sailors be getting in on the action too? Even with my rather small reference pool, I notice that there are a seemingly small number of Joes from groups like Force Recon, Combat Control, Pararescue, Seabees, and so on. I understand that it's partially because those groups are somewhat low-key and much more specialised, but then again we tend to get Joes who are medics and administration. So is anyone else hoping that POC and successive lines will help boslter the ranks with more of these rarely-seen troops? NOTE: Come to think of it, we've never had a Marine pilot, have we? >.>

Don't have a Marine officer either.
I hope they release some figures to fill all those roles. Some of us have created figures or altered Joes to fill those roles. You should check out Zuludelta's filecard project in the fan art forum. He's given all the Joes real military jobs, even the ones that don't translate exactly. For example he's made Lifeline a PJ. Should check it out, you'd enjoy it.

Thanks for the rec, very impressive.
But this still strikes me as something that should have been implemented earlier, in some form or another. Just about the entire chain of command is made up of USAR officers, as does the bulk of enlisted, which really makes me wonder exactly who's keeping the Flagg maintained and directing Ace, Wild Bill, and Slipstream to targets...

Payload is the highest ranking air force officer, a colonel. I don't think any of the pilots are Navy pilots.
The whole concept of crew and maintenance people has barely been touched by Joe. Tanks need at least a crew of 4. Most artillery, including things like the Mountain Howitzer, need at least 5 people to man them. Hell, a Mortar Team is 4 people not one.

I'm kind of hoping to see a realistic reflection of the different branches os service. Besides, I was a Marine and I would love to see more Marines in the POC line.

Again, should check out Zulu's stuff. He's "fixed" the lack of Marines by switching some of the Joes around and making them Marines.

There is that too. I understand that most of this just falls under the MST3K Mantra, but then there are things that just violate common sense, the crew-served weapons issue being one. Hell, if I were Hasbro I'd take full advantage of that fact.
But of course I can understand the tank issue; tooling the inside of a tank to carry more than one would probably impede on playability somewhat. Quote:

The problem with crews is now you need 4 figures for 1 vehicle.
It just wasnt' realistic for a toyline. And then gets into how big is the Joe team? If you have 4 tanks, that's 20 people just for those 4 tanks. 20 unique figures or 16 Greenshirts and 4 named Tank Commanders. The comic and toyline didn't have greenshirts, so they had issues. The cartoon got around it by having greenshirts man all the other vehicles in the big battles.

I agree with you, Troy - but I remember a bunch of times Hasbro folks from the olden days said GI Joe was initially designed as being all about the vehicles, with figures as a bonus to fill up said vehicles. If this was their agenda, I always found it odd that they released on driver per vehicle, and not a crew (which, in many cases, could be as small as two if they know what they're doing) Tom

Please stop talking. The amount of insider information that you have is exactly zero.
Know how I know this? Because you posted a declassified flyer which was meant for fun as a NEWS ITEM. No one would ever tell you anything because the VERY FIRST THING you would do is post it here. Probably incorrectly. |

I think in the beginning that's where Grunt, and The Troopers came in. You filled out your vehicle crews with Green and Blue Shirts. This is just my opinion, but somewhere in the back half of the 80's the vehicles seemed to take a backseat to the figures. All the different "specialized" Cobras and Joes, and the lack of "builders". Sure with Cobra you could use Vipers, but which ones do you use? Too many choices, how could anyone afford to army build the 50 different Viper classes? What about Joe? Where was Grunts updated counterpart?
