Don't even get me started... the Joe support staff would be 3-4x the size of the Joe field operatives. What about the Flagg, there's a couple thousand sailors on that boat. Are they all Joes? What's up with that.

Custodial I can understand the need to skip, but we all know that there is at least on Janitor in the PITT that all the Joes fear and respect.
As for transportation specialists, yeah, that seems a bit conspicuous to be missing. And no offense to the pilots, but I doubt they're the ones who maintain their multi-million dollar death machines. They're not the most exciting jobs, sure, but all excuses are out the window the minute we got an ex-SEAL Veterinarian (Who we have not seen since). And I'm not exactly sure of the policy on entire carriers being delegated to a single JTF...

man, Troynos brings up an interesting equation.
It seems every joe member is cross-trained to pilot / navigate / run every joe vehicle, as each vehicle has no crew, just usually one driver. is there a joe instructor that teaches vehicle / weapon / logistics for the joe team? I think of Sgt. Slaughter here, but he's more of a hands-on kind of tactical battlefield leader / cage wrestler, not a classroom kind of guy, although Slaughter leading the team aloud in a textbook discussion would make for an interesting dio, maybe w. Shipwreck passing notes to Helix with a "do you like me, circle yes or no" theme?...

The cartoon had all the Joes being able to pilot/drive everything and that was just wrong.
What was the point of Ace if Duke, Flint, or Dusty could fly the Skystrikers just as good? And Shipwreck as an ace pilot? Even as a kid that bothered me. The toys at least made the figures vehicle specific, meaning you had tank drivers, pilots, etc... They just never filled in the crews. I suppose you could make a full crew out of all the Joes of that type. For example, Steeler, Thunderwing, Heavy Metal, Cover Girl, Wild Card could be a full tank crew. But then you only have one tank. Then could have each being the commander of a crew, but now you're dealing with a bunch of nameless greenshirts. Or because they are part of the Joe team, they get a name?

I had always assumed being assigned to a refresher course under Slaughter was considered worse punishment than Latrine duty.

You misunderstand. All the Janitors in my universe are the toughest, meanest, most feared and respected members on the whole force. Even Snake Eyes swerves to avoid them when they're in the same hallway.
But I digress. :P

I was in the AF and worked as a "combat" Crash/Rescue firefighter with other branches (Marines, Army) in the middle east during the war, and we helped rescue Marine, Navy , Air Force and British pilots from burning jets. My point is that I agree with the fact having the Officers and even the majority of the support staff in the Joe'verse Army is a discredit to all branches of the armed forces that provide the same support.
On a side note I was pretty stoked to see that in the Transformer movies Tyrese's character was AF TacP or possibly Combat Control. One of my good buddies in the AF Fire dept. cross trained to Combat Control, those are some tough dudes. |
