I'll admit I'm really not a HUGE fan of Hama's work (It's good, but not the masterpiece many will claim it is) but one thing he was great at was taking elements of reality and using it in this goofy, over-the-top military fantasy series. Elements like CIA assassinations, foreign interference, and hatred for the 'system' mainfested into violence... that's not really what I would expect for entertainment synonymous with a child's toy.
But in modern times, since Devils Due up until now, I've never felt GI Joe was occupying any particular time or climate. They've never -to my knowledge -touched on topics like September 11th, Homeland Security, military contractors, or true terrorism. Now, don't get me wrong - I'm not saying I want REALITY AND NOTHING BUT in my GI Joe lore. I just feel a way of making GI Joe more than just blue lasers vs. red lasers is adressing - however briefly - the times in which we live. Tom

Please stop talking. The amount of insider information that you have is exactly zero.
Know how I know this? Because you posted a declassified flyer which was meant for fun as a NEWS ITEM. No one would ever tell you anything because the VERY FIRST THING you would do is post it here. Probably incorrectly. |

There was supposed to be an episode of the Sunbow cartoon called "The most dangerous man in the world" about a Karl Marx like figure who was Cobra's philosophical leader. Chuck Dixon said he really wanted to do this episode to show that Cobra as an organization did have a deeper philosophy, but Cobra Commander himself was more interested in his own power. Of course the episode got scrapped when Hasbro told Sunbow they wanted a Cobra Emperor introduced at the beginning of season 2.
