I was sitting here when all of a sudden it hit me! “why are you on a site about toys? Why do you like this plastic junk so much???” well after I told that voice in my head to go back and find me a beer I contemplated why so many of us are here. For me growing up in the 80’s gi joe was THE toy. Every weekend me and my friends as a kid would get together with are boxes of joes and I can honestly say my memories of that time are some of my favorites. Im grown up now. Have the house and the kids and the bills and still I LOVE these damn toys. But why? Why do I dedicate a room just to them? Why do I tell anyone that is at a store to look for them? Why spend money at all on them when there are better things to do with it?
Because I may be older but I still love G.I. JOE! And I make it a point to share that with anyone, although aside from this site I have never met anyone my age who enjoys them as much as I do but I don’t care. YO JOE! |

Well... for me it was cuz they were my favorite toys. When a friend form school brought a backpack full of them for the xmas party in 3d grade, and I was Like that is COOL..... it took about 2 years later before I actualy was able to own REAL GI joes. We were not well off back then and any extra money back then did not go to toys.. and they were hand me downs at that....then I meet my best friend who was a Joe fanatic in 5th grade and had all kinds of joes and had an awesome imagination and would play "set up" for hours... this consisted of sorting out all joes, taking turns picking Joes and Cobras until all were gone, and do the same process for weapons and backpacks...... but through all this I only had a handfull of joes, he had everything command cente planes vehicals, and I always had the crappy ones, as I never could find the good ones, and when I finally got them, they were gifts, or had one chance to pick what was at the store I was at and that was it.....Figures Like Ambush, Metel Head, Salvo, the Rampart.....NEVER like SE or SS, or DUKE... .the guys I saw everyday on the cartoons...
ANYWAYZ... I guess now that I am an adult with a Son...its an easy excuse to get what I could not years back....

I agree with Foolproof. I stopped collecting Joes for a long time and moved on to other toys lines. Mostly 6" scale like Marvel Legends and McFarlane/ Neca movie figures with very little articulation. I've also collected SW figs my entire life. Then I saw the 25th Snake Eyes and thought I'd buy just that one. After I was taken back by the articulation, the accessories, and the detailed sculpts, well, I'm hooked again. Plus, 3 3/4" really is the ideal scale.

Joes were the very first toys I remember as a kid, and the toys that I was in to for the longest. I had some Star Wars, had some MOTU, but Joes were always number one. Not exactly sure why, just the way it is.

Open ended playing. The fact that gi joe has some of the coolest villains. Not to mention, gi joe manages to co-op all the trends going on into it. So one year, joes will fight aliens. Have mechs.
But the best part are Cobra. |
