Honestly, I'm guilty of the "hoarding" thing, but I usually end up opening them eventually for fodder. A lot of times I'll buy a spare of a harder to find figure if I think any of his parts are useful for customs, but that's about it. I'd rather get it at a good price, instead of needing it 6 months from now and having to eBay it to get one, and spending 3x as much.
I passed up a white coat Rex the other day because I don't give a shit about the figure and selling or trading it is a huge pain in the ass. I actually bought a Best of 80s set the other day to help a Tanker help me... I'm looking to trade the Bo80s set for a Rattler, which is about the same value, and helps a Tanker get a hard to find item in return for an item that was easy to find, the same value, but hard to find now. And you know what? I can't get anyone to bite. If I were to sell it eventually, it'd not be for a profit, because I don't play that game, but it'd be maybe $20+shipping because I'm not a fucking charity... I don't eat the cost of driving around, and sometimes people don't consider that in the cost. I don't think scalpers make as much of a profit as folks on here think they do. As far as the question, repackers are just sad. All that effort and they probably aren't saving anything at all. Thieves are douches no matter what they steal, whether it's a million dollars or a pack of gum. The returns-to-save-a-few-bucks guy is just lazy, but it's more annoying than anything, I don't find it too offensive, just cheap. Hoarders/scalpers don't even rank in that same category. I ordered a second MOTU Scareglow as leverage to later sell/trade for something I wanted. However, I didn't drive around town searching every store buying every "elusive" figure so that I could turn profit when nobody else could get them. There in lies the difference. And, as I said before, it's not illegal. Just dickish. |

You seem a bit defensive in your post. Let me lay your mind to rest. I'm not sure that qualifies you as a "scalper".

Toy "scalpers" are nowhere near the assholes who clog the streets outside the Giants' stadium in San Francisco bugging every passerby if they want tickets for double the cost. (I am dressed nicely and have a laptop bag on my shoulder, do I look like I am remotely interested in going to a baseball game tonight?) At least Joe scalpers aren't harassing people on the way to their cars with CS Snake Eyes for "25 dawla, gittum while dey hawt". |

Not really dickish either, especailly in this economy. That person your calling a scalper just has more drive and determination to get there before you. Kinda like the pied piper....you pay him to get rid of the rats since no one else will...the scalper goes out and picks up the product which is fair game to all, but just beats a to the punch. We all deal with scalpers, ya just gotta play the game as hard as they do to out wit em in the end.
To put it in another perspective, if I had the money, I could buy all the food and say tough cause I was the pied piper so pay me to eat. I know that is a BIG streach but it the best analogy I could come up with on short notice. As I said, it's not illegal. It's a capitalistic society after all... |

I respect your reply and I guess it's just a matter of motivation and opinion. My opinion is it's dickish. Yours is that it is not. Guess we have to agree to disagree here.

No defensiveness to it. I admit, I have more than I "need" for my collection, I was just stating the fact that I do mildly hoard from time to time.

We can agree on that...capitolism and free enterpirse....and you have ever right to buy up that food and sell it for a huge profit, but watch out for those competitors with lower prices and huge volume buyers power so many ways everyone gets to be dix in this world haha
I understand how the system works, that doesn't mean I always agree with it. That being said, often times, the scalpers get screwed when what they buy doesn't command the price they thought it would. It's all risk and reward. I also mentioned before, I've participated in dickish behavior before, that doesn't mean I'm proud of it. But, I really really don't like the guys who scalp to purposely scalp. It's a matter of opinion. |

gotta go with repackers on this one. They not only steal a figure, but they screw with whoever inadvertently buys that figure later on. Feel especially bad if it's a kid. At least with a thief, the store pulls the package off the floor.

Yeah, I think we don't think very different from each other.
