A lot of the big deal being made also has to do with how difficult an item is to find. I don't pay above retail, but a price can be a guage for how rare or in demand an item may be. It's kind of neat to find something that sells for a decent amount, just because you feel lucky to have seen it before someone else.

I only collect MIB, But ONLY The 25th/ME because they look so great-Toy and Packagewise...that Vintage Artwork is really "Artful" in a "Andy Warholic Americana" type of way.
I don't expect crap of future $ increase, that is folly really, other figures I find "too cool", I open, an pose and display but the majority stay in the Cards because they compliment each other and the card gives a brief overview of what the toy "Is". Collecting Toys for cash investment is a losing venture, the money spent on gas, time, and effort just to find figures never pays off when you attempt to "Cash In" later on in the future...You just end up an old crab, stuck with things you won't let go beneath a certain price for whatever reason, and Customers/Clientele that think you're nuts for your asking price...The OP is correct...it really is not worth it.

95% of my Joes are loose. I have 14 MOC, and like 350 loose. I don't give a tin sh!t about monetary value, I love them, and as said earlier, they're priceless to me.

Im a collector and have some things MIB but only cause the box looks cool with the toy in it. The thing is though none of these toys are gonna be worth anything down the road. The hard to find white coat rex will only be worth 10-20 bucks max. Even a 1984 mib storm shadow is only worth like 30 bucks and if it is graded a perfect maybe 200. You would need a lot of these guys to pay for your retirement or pay your kids way through college and the only way you would get what you hope of it is to come across a rich collector. My question is, why do some people including some on this board make a big deal of how much something is worth or will be when it really wont be?
ill buy a mib 1984 storm shadow for $200.00 bucks

This day in age, toys are mass produced to huge quanties. Couple that with the fact that everyone and their grandma is a collector of some sort, so in twenty or thirty years there will still be tons of this crap floating around mib. The only reason classic or orginal stuff goes for some cash is because very seldom was the stuff not purchased as a kids toy, opened, played with, and destroyed. Only things that may go for money is extremely limited things like the convention sets, and chase figures. And even then prices vary on supply and demand and whats trendy at the time.

I can't stand MISB collectors that only care about how much profit they can make on a toy down the road. Unfortunately those are the only types of collectors I ever meet. I'm surrounded by them.

Why do I buy Joes? Because I like them, and I want them.
Why do I open them? Because otherwise, I find it hard to appreciate them. In my own opinion, keeping them in the box is pointless- I may as well print pictures of it and tape them to the wall. That's just me, though. People will pay for something that really want it. But anyone who tries to make a living hoarding is like a scalper. They won't be worth that much, simply because so few people are willing to pay ridiculous prices for toys. |

All my Joes are loose. I don't give a damn about their value. I collect them because I love them, and enjoy collecting them.
If there is one that I don't have, but want, I still won't pay though the nose for it. Hasbro usually releases them again in different colors, or someone decides to part with their collection. I have always found if I wait I will get the figures I want, at a good price. Patience has saved me a lot of cash. I just found the last three DVD packs last week for $15 a piece. and it felt great! Even more so, because I didn't get screwed over by a scalper. I would not collect anything just to cash in on it. I buy them because I think they are fun, and they make me happy.
