I got mine in 1999. Most of the time people ask me why I have a brick wall tattoo. One lady asked me if it was a birthmark.
Then I have to give them my standard "This is a symbol from the I-Ching or Book of Changes. It is one of 64 possible combinations of broken and unbroken lines. It symbolizes the first steps of order out of chaos. The bottom symbol is fire, the top symbol is water. It is precarious, the water over the fire is beneficial because it creates energy, you can cook with it, but if you're not careful the water will boil over and put the fire out." Then there are the people who recognize the tattoo right away. I like it when I don't have to explain it. |

Someone else in the Joe mythos also used an I-Ching hexagram.
On Professor Onihashi's gate (the Arashikage swordsmith) there is a different hexagram than the Arashikage hexagram. This can be seen in issue 84 of the Marvel series when Zartan tries to gain access to the Arashikage clan. The hexagram (I-Ching #27, K'un k'un, The Corners of the Mouth) symbolizes 'nourishment'. This image has been resized. Click this bar to view the full image. The original image is sized 623x569 and weights 138KB. DDP didn't notice the difference (Snake-Eyes Declassified #4). Ok, the top one is:
"(Whether it's in the) past or present, there are always God-fearing, noble Samurai." I didn't translate myself, but got it from here- translation please The second one (which is upside down, by the way) is read "mei-yo" in Japanese and means "honor" or "dignity." Is that a Last Samurai sword replica? Last edited by Ako Roshi; 11-06-2009 at 05:45 PM.. |

Yup its the same thing as from the movie the last samurai - I have a sword with the same markings - definitely not from the movie as I got the sword about 2 years before the movie was made.
Also, don't feel stupid, you live you learn ;) Ka-Ching! XD It's good to come to a place were you get even more info on the subject (constructive) instead of just getting beat down with "retard" etc isn't it? - I've learned some new neat stuff from this thread at least |
