Hmmm. Maybe Snake-Eyes is just a suit that random Joes who otherwise aren't in the scene wear. But most of the time it's Duke. Or Comic-book Hawk who also had the "blonde haired/blue eyed" thing going on. |

You ever hear a song on the radio or MTV that totally sucks ass? But the more they play it the more you start to like it? Then the next thing you know it becomes ultra-popular. It's the same thing. I don't think Duke or Snake-Eyes or Bumblebee are really that popular at all. Hasbro just pushes those characters at us & like that crappy song, people think they need to buy them. It's brainwashing.
Majority of humans can't think for themselves. They need to be told which characters they like. How many threads have you seen where somebody asks which character they should buy? Or threads asking what toy will be worth more money in the future? Because most people cannot think for themselves. Just look at teenage girls, mindless followers that have to copy everybody else! |

Wow, so all this time I thought I liked these characters due to my own personal taste, and now it turns out that I've been brainwashed all this time. Damn! The only other possibilty is that I like Duke because he has blonde hair and blue eyes, which we all know is bad; being Blonde haired and blue eyed is apperantly no longer politically correct. Wow, just wow.

I would say that I have always liked Duke because he is the first Joe figure I remember having. I think that he was acutally the second but the one I always played with the most as a kid, and it probably has do due with watching the show and seeing him as the leader. I know I was really disappointed once his o-ring broke and he fell apart, and at the time we didn't know how to fix it so I ended up losing him. I still dont know what ever happened to him.

To me, Duke is the Leader of GI Joe, so you pretty much need him for your collection. That's why he's so popular to me.

I think the fact that in a universe of ninja, bikers, circus acrobats, genetically engineered clones, pro-wrestlers, robots, cyborgs, and God knows what the hell Croc Master is, the fact that a guy who looks like completely normal army sergeant remains popular says a lot.
Like others have said, he's the everyman. Yeah, I wouldn't mind if Stalker got a little bit of that love too, but even he's got a disturbing background (the very first black dude in Joe and he's a former gang warlord? Seriously?). Like the line from the famous Queen song about another everyman hero, he's just a man, with a man's courage, nothing but a man, who can never fail. Of course, being the most normal guy in a quirky bunch, he catches a lot of crap from fans who have their personal favs, but I keep a Duke with the american flag and an M-16 standing proud on my TV, and it's by far the most awesomely patriotic thing you'll see in my whole cynically liberal house. |

As much as Hasbro pushed Duke and SE's down our throats.. I always gravitated towards Flint and Falcon.
