A "Cool Breeze" character actually existed in 3.75" toy form before he appeared in the GI Joe comics in 1991. He was part of the Bronze Bombers toyline (made by Olmec Toys), who licensed the Hasbro GI Joe and Palitoy Action Force molds to make "GI Joe-like" African-American-themed characters. Here's the Yojoe.com page on the 1988 Bronze Bombers (Cool Breeze is in the bottom row):
YOJOE.COM | Bronze Bombers - 1988 I think it's too much of a coincidence that a black dude wearing a light-coloured uniform with the same distinct code name would appear in the GI Joe comics. The 1988 toy had to have inspired the 1991 comic book character. You'll also note that two other 1988 Bronze Bomber figures would end up lending their code-names to future GI Joe characters: Sure Fire (a GI Joe toy first released in 2001) and Hi-Tech (released in 2004). Olmec would again license Hasbro molds to create a second wave of Bronze Bombers in 1997: YOJOE.COM | Bronze Bombers - 1997 Again, one of their characters would end up having their code name re-used by a Hasbro GI Joe character, Hard Drive (a GI Joe toy released in 2004). |

cool breeze - battle force 2000 (89 or 90?)
d-day - Sargent Savage (mid 90s) desert wolf dynamite - Sgt. Savage grill headbanger hollowpoint - BTR inferno - Sigma Six (barbecue's looks, different code name) mangler mouse red zone - Steel brigade (early 2000s) rook - Steel brigade (early 2000s) scanner - devils due comics (mid 2000s) basically a civi tech guy sgt boulder tank - sgt. savage teiko Now another one that confused me was two peopl with the same code name: dusty- jeffery paggette ronald w. tudor lifeline- edwin c stew greg scott sidetrack- sean c mclaughlin john boyce super trooper- joe deniro paul latimer All of these were because hasbro released multiple versions and for some reason used different firle names on the cards of one of the versions. That version subsequently became a new character with the same code name (but generally with some minor mod - ie lifeline and life line, sidetrack and side track, supertrooper and super trooper) |

This is great! thanks to everybody that helped. man, I was stumpedon these. I didnt even give thought to sgt savage either. One other bit , it the same book it has mainframe under another name - hard drive- but I have hard drives file here and it says nothing of mainframe at all? so did mainframe change to hard drive or is hard drive another charcter all together? (side note- I know of the change for the 25th line but the author implies a change before these) thanks -mark
