I think Revenge of Cobra had the best animation, but I liked the sound effects better in the first mini series [actual gunfire sounds]. Revenge of Cobra also introduced my favorite characters.
Those of you who grew up in the Chicago area -- did they introduce the GI Joe cartoons through WGN/Channel 9's "The Bozo Show" ? I'm sure that's how I remember it... |

I don't really consider any of the mini-series to be examples of the cartoon at it's best, but I think THE MASS DEVICE was the best example of the format.
The pared-down cast (on both sides) and use of characters that I'd first seen in the weekly black & white "Action Force" comic makes watching it a very warm & rewarding experience.

Have to go with the first mini-series, MASS Device was too cool. I still remember to this day when I first saw it. I enjoy the others, but that one comes first.

G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero is the Best. The others were all great.
I watched the cartoon in the morning before school on WGN "Bozo" and after school on Fox. I have a copy of the entire Gi Joe cartoon collection that was released by Rhino on dvd+/- format. Anybody wanting to buy can let me know. |

im going for Arise Serpentor Arise. it had most of the characters i knew best when i was a kid. i was always a fan of beach head too. i liked the history part about it as a kid the most. i thought that was an awsome idea. the night raven comes about in those episodes too and i ALWAYS wanted that as a kid.

I'm all for the first mini-series. At the time I had a few Joes, but never saw the comics. Everything I knew about them was contained in their file cards. I remember racing home from school each day to see the next episode. And I remember believing (wrongly) that the initial series was more dramatic, more realistic, and more violent than the later cartoons.
