I've gotta agree with some of the others in this thread: Any time they try to make a TV show that DOESN'T revolve around 100% realistic worlds/characters, it usually turns out poorly. I mean, SFX fail. The only exceptions would be shows like Stargate or Farscape or Lost, or Heroes after the first season, which had a weird-things-are-happening premise but kept things mostly-real world with only a few FX.
I guess you could make it like Relic Hunter or the Librarian movies, though, and a little cheese hasn't hurt anybody; I love those shows! (although technically the latter are made-for-TV movies.) I mean, Mutant X was good, so it's not impossible, but live-action wouldn't be ideal. Animated would be good; more Clone Wars and less Resolute. I liked most of the Resolute art-style, but not the limited animation during most scenes besides the SS/SE fight, and I've gone on about the other things lacking from that series elsewhere. I like Clone Wars because it gives us a well-plotted, well-written, and (very important, here) well-acted series that both "hardcore" fans and the kid-based market can enjoy. Resolute had too much "WE R SO TOTALLY HARDCORE U GUYZ) going on that it would definitely get tired after a while. Besides, at the rate they killed off characters in a one-hour movie, it'd decimate both main case and side-characters in the course of a season. So, live-action would be awesome if well-done, but the logistics make it highly unlikely. "Resolute" should not be shorthand for "just like the Resolute movie/webisodes," because that would be similarly lame. Animated and somewhat darker, sure. Same or similar art-style? Cool. Violence? Eh, kind of gratutitous, but that'll be negotiated. Exactly like Resolute? No. We need something like Transformers Animated. The forums were lit up with bitching before the episodes started to air, but the actual series (and figures, don't forget them) were so good that all but a few holdouts were converted. I don't mean the artstyle, but TF:A has been doing a lot right; G.I. Joe could use a similar (televised) breath of fresh air. |

A live action would be cool but unlikely. At best, it'd be like Mortal Kombat, at worst the Power Rangers. In any case, they'd still give scripting duties to writers who have no idea or love for the concept. Hell, they'd probably tweak the concept as well.
Alot of folks point out Resolute as one of the best incarnations of the joe mythos. I loved Resolute but the sad reality is that Warren Ellis doesn't give a crap about Joe. There was no love or passion in his work. It was a paycheck. He's said so himself both on his blog Warren Ellis GI JOE: RESOLUTE where he himself states that joe was "meaningless in his world". The fact that he read some backstories and did some research and that he's a fantastic writer meant that resolute at least to me (and lots of tankers) kicked ass. Now, try getting the same consistency and quality from a bunch of screenwriters who're only doing this to pay the bills whilst shopping around their own original material or trying to land a better show. That's why, sadly alot of ROC sucked. It had its good but I daresay, even the die hard supporters will agree that it still could have been better. Btw, I remember that Soldier of Fortune show, it was kinda cool in a cheesy kinda way. |

I think this should be a poll, because I would really like to see which way it leans. I personally don't think a live action TV Show would work all that well. I mean I like the idea of it, but I think in reality it just wouldn't go over well. For some reason i see it looking very much like the early 80's Spiderman live action TV Show...and while it was cool for it's time it was super cheesy. However if they did it more in the style of The Clone Wars I would totally dig that

It would of been cool in the 80's like the A-team which is special ops military mega action that's over the top w/ macho and funny characters. If they did it now, it would be interesting to delve deeper into the Cobra mythos w/ scenes of their daily operations and power struggles.
