Tracking versions of Star Wars figures would be quite a challenge with all of the packaging changes, repacks, and very minor repaints. Plus there's the problem of Star Wars collectors' heads exploding when they see how many versions of each main character have been released in just the last year... And no, it isn't funny - exploding heads are no laughing matter. Especially for those left behind to clean up the mess and dispose of hundreds of brain-splattered Darth Vader figures... |

It would be a lot easier to cross reference and find a figure version if the 'scum database was setup like the YoJoe database.

Rebelscum.com is probably the closest thing to YoJoe.com. Harder to find stuff though...

What I find interesting is that between 1982-97, there were only 8 versions of Snake Eyes. But between 2000 and now, there have been 38 versions.

Yep. The late 90's and the rise of the reborn Star Wars line (along with Beast Wars) was right about the point that retailers and manufacturers started being all about the "Core Character" mentality.
I think that's also about the time they action figure models transitioned from "one large wave for the whole year" to "multiple waves throughout the year, but with a lot more repainting/rehashing." |
