I used to be stationed at Edwards AFB. Saw some weird birds, but never an "Aurora". Anyway, I was real good friends with a civilian crew chief at Plant 42 (Lockheed Skunkworks), and he told me that there were a series of plaques in one of the inner rooms of the plant commemorating the successful projects over the years. Included were the U2, SR-71, F-117, and the Aurora, with no picture included. Just has the word "Aurora" on it. Anyway, there is only one certainty for me: There was something developed for the military name Aurora.

I used to think it was real.
I played some arcade game, either Spy Hunter or something similar, where a jet similar to the X-19 zooms fast up the screen. Now I think they just snagged the Jow design, or I hallucinated. |

With the YF-23 RFB it was actually revealed by a wooden desktop model that was put on Ebay and removed the same day of; it was later admitted to be legit. Looked pretty cool, the image is in a few books, basically a longer, possibly a little bigger, YF-23 with 2 seats and the 2nd cockpit resembled the cockpits on the RA-5 Vigilante and SR-71 Blackbird. I would not be surprised if full air superiority capability was kept intact, as I think it was meant as a replacement for the Strike Eagle and the YF-23 was very, very agile and fast to begin with. |

the most amazing thing i ever read about the old Blackbirds was that a pilot once said that he flew so fast in one that he saw 3 sunrises in one day. of course, he cheated a little by flying close to the Arctic Circle.
But damn, that's kewl. I think that a pilot could handle a bird going mach 10+, but the practical applications would be few and far between. only one i can think of for an Aurora type plane would be for passenger service- launch, reach sub-orbital altitudes, go full throttle and land. make Nonstop global flights faster, and in the end, inexpensive. man, i'd rathen spend 4 hours in a jet to Kyoto than 30 hours and multiple connecting flights. Back to reality, though. those were all weather balloons and you should listen to your BIG BROTHER (he looks out for you) and stop sniffing the glue, kids. lol.

Man that would have to be one heck of a bump at those speeds. I know when landing gear comes down and there is that second of pressure change you get a little kick. That must be one wild ride. I wonder if the Aurora would even have pilots or is it a drone. After all we've had drones as far back as the 70's. Also can it even turn at those speeds? Or would it break up if it tried? That sat photo was of a straight line. Think about it that was one frame and that thing had already went across and then out of the U.S. Lastly isn't the Aurora spozed to be a space plane? Man it's some really cool tech if it's real.
