I wouldn't.
Change enemies, change leaders, change members, change creators, etc. It's far more plausible for G.I. Joe to last 75-100 years than Iron-Man or Spider-Man or the Hulk. There are still dozens upon dozens of characters to feature but every iteration tends to focus on the same 15-20 characters. From military to adventure, from Vietnam to outer space to the arctic to underwater to the jungle to "the coming thing," there's more life left in the franchise than has been shown.

My head-canon is mostly based on the first 100-ish issues of the original comic, with smatterings of the cartoon series for characters that were better defined there.
Agree that GI Joe doesn't need to end, but bringing that timeline and those characters into retirement would involve some combination of people aging out into happily-ever-afters, being killed in the line of duty, or getting moved into leadership or training roles as they lost the resilience of youth. The team would live on, but I wouldn't mind a conclusion for the core of ARAH. Nothing lasts forever. |

I've got two Joe universes:
4 inch timeline has the Joes in 2004 where Valor vs Venom has just ended, the Joes begin preparations for events seen in the collector club box sets so my timeline has ended for now -Sigma 6 occurred -Joe Adventure Team stories occurred I've got figures from the films on display but the movies didn't happen, parallel universe? Classified is based off the Sunbow run, but takes place in modern times with the story moderized where it's required-this timeline ends when Classified ends Last edited by GoodGuy9; 03-26-2025 at 06:07 PM.. |

I thought it was already done.
Oh you mean like a story or narrative. IDK, someone needs to go through 40 years of stuff and collate something cohesive and compelling. Seriously who can understand this convoluted history and "canon(s)" anymore. Definately no 9 year old.

Old soldiers retire. I'd retire the class of '82. After another year, I'd retire the entire class of '83, along with Major Bludd, Destro and the Baroness. I'd continue this every year. There are over 200 Joes to use.
Eventually, Mace and Mirage would get some time to shine. What I got |

Thanks to everyone who threw their ideas in the pot.
To those of you who don't like the idea of GI Joe ending, I appreciate you holding that position. As a Marvel fan, it's interesting that many of us consider roughly the first half of the run canon, then less and less so as the comic continued. It's nice that people still want more Sunbow. I agree that many characters got better character representations there than in Marvel or elsewhere. For anyone not aware, there is an episode of Community with new Sunbow-style animation and the original voice actors. Not exactly what you want, but enjoyable anyway. I was surprised that almost no one had a toy-only canon they'd created in their heads, with no comic or movie or cartoon influence. This shouldn't surprise me given ARAH GI Joe's saturation the last 43 years, but it still does.

A lot of that might just be when it overlapped with the ages a lot of us were when those issues came out. You see similar preferences with figures on this site.
