The Joes often operate covertly, but sometimes, they need conventional military armor support. In looking at the list of currently active US military land vehicles (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o..._land_vehicles), it got me thinking about which Joe vehicles might fill the roles of each of the vehicle types on that list. For some of these vehicle types, none exist yet in action figure scale, but some Joe versions exist in 1/64 Maisto diecast scale (2001/2002). Here's what I have so far:
Main battle tank (Abrams) - Patriot Grizzly, Night Force Grizzly Assault Gun (M10 Booker) - MOBAT, Camo MOBAT, Mauler, Green Mauler X (unproduced) Infantry Fighting vehicles (M2 Bradley) - Blue/gray urban camo Maisto 2001 (M3 Bradley) - 3 color variations Maisto 2001 Armored Personnel Carriers (M113 APC - Marines) - Maisto 2001 in tan and camo (LAV-25) - Maisto 2001 (Assault Amphibious Vehicle) - Warthog, Night Rhino, Renegades Warthog (French APC) - APC, Night Scrambler, CUDA, Z-Force ATC (Pandur I - special forces) - Quickstrike 2004 Armored Combat Support Vehicles (M60A1) - Toss-n-Cross Bridgelayer Mine Protected Vehicles (BAE Caiman) - Renegades Coyote (unproduced) Light Armored Vehicles (Humvee) - Jungle Strike Humvee, Desert Humvee, Night Ops Humvee (Flyer 72 - SOCOM) - Ninja Combat Cruiser, Rescue Ops 4x4 (M1117 Guardian - MPs) - appeared in GI Joe: Retaliation film Light Utility Vehicles (Advanced Light Strike Vehicles) - AWE Striker (5 variants: green, all black, urban, tan+black, black+tan), FOE Striker (Ranger Special Ops Vehicle) - Desert Striker '01, MUV, VAMP 4 ('04), VAMP 5 ('07) (Interim Fast Attack Vehicle - Marines) - Mudbuster?, Split Fire? (Infantry Squad Vehicle) - VAMP '10, VAMP '11A, VAMP '11B Self-Propelled Artillery (Multiple Launch Rocket System) - Wolverine, SAS Night Wolverine (Self-Propelled Howitzer) - Slugger (3 variants - camo, green, tan), Night Force Slugger (unproduced) Air Defense (Avenger Air Defense Vehicle) - Air Defense Vehicle (unproduced), Smoke Screen Transport, VAMP 2 brown, VAMP 2 tan, Tiger Sting, VAMP '14 Shoreline Defense Misc. (Cold-weather ATV) - nothing yet (Polaris MV850) - Tiger Paw, Tiger Claw ATV, Covert Ops ATV, Assault Quad (Motorcycle) - RAM, Desert RAM, Night Pursuit Cycle, Silver Mirage, Snarler Cycle (Snowmobile) - Polar Battle Bear, Rockslide (2 variants) Experimental (Ripsaw) - Tread Ripper Towed Artillery (M119 Towed Howitzer) - Mountain Howitzer (M777 Towed Howitzer) - HAL Other battlefield weapons (TOW Rocket Launcher) - Bivouac w/TOW Rocket Launcher What else am I missing? A Beowulf CATV (Cold Weather All-Terrain Vehicle) to replace the Snow Cat:
https://www.army-technology.com/proj...icle-catv-usa/ https://www.twz.com/behold-beowulf-t...-troop-carrier Currently toywise all I can find is a 1/87 and 1/72 scale model kit just released from Germany. I suspect it will get more die cast toys since the US military and several European nations adopted it for use. https://www.panzerfux.de/latest-mode...-87058&p=15032 https://www.panzerfux.de/Just-arrive...F-72034&p=4308 Last edited by sisco; 03-25-2025 at 10:40 PM.. |

When my son graduated from engineer school at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO, we toured the campus looking at all the military vehicles on display. They had a Wolverine (bridge layer) and several tank variations like some with flame thrower main barrels and others with missile attachments.
That's what I loved about G.I. Joe as a kid -- the original vehicles for about the first3 or 4 years looked like something you might expect to see in the military. Jason |
