Yes, absolutely, one of the classics of the late 80s and a personal fave.
Always wondered if he was ever planned to be blonde and another Rock & Roll, and/or painted very differently and an Iron Grenadier leader. Super glad he turned out the way he did though, don?t get me wrong! Outback was definitely one of the more realistic looking Joe figures from the '86-'88 stretch.

Heck, yeah. That was one of the most memorable story lines from the original comic, and a darn good Special Missions issue. Never owned the '87 figure, but both of the Classified versions are good. We were mailing around his Tiger Force figure for a minute, but that project sadly died.

Good call OP. I couldn't really pick a favorite figure, there's probably a rotation of 5 or 6 figs that I would call my favorite, depending on what day it is. Outback is part of that elite crew.
He looks SO cool, what a great design, prefect sculpt; a real 'get down to business' minimalist look: awesome gun, loved the military flashlight, and he was the first guy to come with removable web-gear, which was a big deal back in the day! Then he's got this huge honkin' backpack, and it was so fun to imagine all the cool survival gear in there. (My only complaint is, he should have come with a big survival knife, like Falcon's or a machete.) Like many have said, the comic storyline he played a central role in was one of the best of the original run. That solo Special Missions issue was just nuts! Then, when he's finally safe at home, and the other Joes give him attitude, he pulls a knife on the meanest Joe of all! Don't mess with Outback!!! Another cool feature is his torso is sculpted so well, you can easily fit all kinds of later web-gear on him from modern era or Marauder figures and load him up with mission specific gear. |

Outback is great! I especially like when he returned from that mission in Borovia and Leatherneck was giving him shit about leaving Stalker, Snow Job, and Quick Kick behind and Outback just casually pulls a huge knife on him. lol
Also, his Classified figure is still one of the best head sculpts in the line.

I remember seeing something on here a few years back about how Outback might be the Rocky head with a beard and headband added. It does sort of look like it is the same head.

The texture of his hair and that defined face sculpt I grew up on the original and picked up the tf for my son years later and as much as I like the ver 1 the TF version is done so well it?s not crazy tf colors and they gave him grey hair ..imo it makes for. Nice looking solid snake or snake eater That face sculpt has that no nonsense look and IMO outback & major bludds face sculpts are the best in the line so far . Okay snowjob and R&R also have 2 great sculpts as well ..

On the subject of Outback and the rumored Rocky connection, Mark Pennington's sculpt sheet for Rocky is below if anyone wants to compare.
About halfway down the page: https://www.3djoes.com/mark-pennington.html |

The original Outback was one of my favorite figures when I was a kid. He was in almost all of my teams and adventures.
I love both of his Classified figures, and I?m still holding out hope for a Night Force version. |
