We finally got a Dreadnok sporting the Dreadnok insignia as a tattoo, but the 'Nok logo ZANDAR has is this one
![]() as opposed to this one. ![]() So y'all know what I'm going to ask. Why is that first and only appearance of the new Dreadnok logo was on the ZARTAN #31 packaging? I ask why ZANDAR was sporting old logo and the plausible answer is it was too expensive to use such an intricate and detailed design on the figure. Everything that I've said about why I favor the JOE eagle over the Classified star holds true for the new Dreadnok logo. The design is sick and is the best logo for any faction in the JOEverse. The design screams Dreadnoks and captures the embodiment of what they're about. Also, the design looks like something that would be on the back of a motorcycle vest. I'm sure that Lenny put a lot of time and effort into designing the Dreadnok logo and it's damn shame that a dope design is falling by the wayside.

IRL reason? Because the line has gone more retro so the retro designs are used.
In universe reason is probably that Zartan's has a cobra because he works for them directly, and that each Nok has a different personal tatt. Hence why his has Zartan's eyes and Zandar's is classic and Road Pig has his own on his belly. The only consisted tatt now with the Dreadnoks is the Anarchy tatt, right? Which Gnaw and Road Pig sport. |

That’s an interesting take! Do you think they might eventually standardize the tattoos across all Dreadnoks, or would that go against their chaotic vibe?

Haha.
I have it on good authority, when the 'Noks lived in Australia, Bastard Squad was their favourite band. Often seen in 'The Squad's' pit, right up the front, pogoing. NSFW NSFW NSFW NSFW NSFW NSFW

EDIT: The above logic would also explain why we're not getting unique inserts for Iron Grenadiers, which would be a 4th faction to juggle. Only the art on the outside of the box shows the Iron Grenadiers logo which makes sense since the outside of the box is always unique for every figure. (includes their name, figure number, etc.). When it comes to the figure and which tattoo was used, I'm not sure it has anything to do with printing limitations. Peep the Python Patrol logo on PP Copperhead's chest and check out how detailed it is at that size. I think they just wanted to homage the original dreadnok logo for this figure. Lastly, are we certain Lenny designed the dreadnok logo? Not trying to say he didn't or couldn't but I think we sometimes give him blanket credit for everything in this line and I'm sure there's quite a few people who work on all these assets in conjunction with him. Having no knowledge of whether he did it or not (feel free to correct me) My guess is an in house or 3rd party illustrator created this logo. It's not exactly a task you ask your lead creative to do since you probably want him cranking on designing new figures. Last edited by DFender; 01-24-2025 at 07:43 PM.. |

yes, sorry for the Off Topic digression on my part.

Mythbuster's TV crew says "Plausible". I've always thought of the Dreadnoks under Zartan as underworld contractors to Cobra, only interested in the wealth on offer, so a third faction if you will. Would be great if they had their own packaging but as you detail, imagine the griping over price with the costs and inevitable price increases with a 3rd packaging style.

The answer regarding the packaging is probably because it is cheaper to leave it out. Right now there are 2 variations on the packaging insert that go across all standard figures (blue for Joes, red for Cobras). A dreadnok version would add a third variation. That means printing, producing, and managing a 3rd variations and training a factory to know when to use each one. Tack on the additional variable of box size between standard, deluxe, and Pet figures and you have even more variations of the art by size and faction. Additionally, the pattern for how figures are released in each wave has been pretty steady with 2 good guys, and 2 bad guys. That means they can design and print a shit ton of those 2 variations and carry them over, wave after wave. If you start differentiating dreadnoks from cobras, that means for some waves you would need to account for and order the dreadnok specific insert and for some waves you would not, as dreadnoks are not guaranteed to be included in every wave. So again, it's another variable to manage and plan for, and one that probably isn't very important to the bottom line.
EDIT: The above logic would also explain why we're not getting unique inserts for Iron Grenadiers, which would be a 4th faction to juggle.
