I think that due to the era they were made the idea of using things like compressed air, springs and even salt of all things to deminish the blast isn't going to be super common.
The reason I picked the ones I did was those ones don't have the missiles just near the cockpit or operator but in a place the missiles backwash would hit the operator... and in many cases there is flame gushing out of the back of the launching projectiles on the box art (which is why I mentioned it in the 1st place really) - In some cases wearing a fire protective suit and some sort of mouth cover seems advisable and might be enough too prevent you catching your uniform on fire. |

The H.I.S.S. isn't a typical tank. It's a lot faster (hence the name... HIgh Speed Sentry) and manoeuvrable than standard tanks. It can reach a fully-loaded top speed of about 75 mph (60 cross country). By comparison, the M1 Abrams has a top speed of 45 mph.
Apparently, the driver canopy is "shell-proof", although it doesn't say exactly how big a shell it can repel. It also has armour skirting on the treads to protect them. It's cannons also have about twice the range and twice the rate of fire of a standard tank. This is all taken from Order of Battle. I think they are designed for hit and run type tactics or to overwhelm with speed and firepower while heavier stuff get there. |

Lol, yes, the CLAW, the FANG, the Cobra Jet Pack, the Buzz Boar, the Triple T, I could probably keep going but those first three would absolutely kill their pilots in no time.

The narrow head-on profile would be good, and it would be good for mobility as far as climbing over obstacles. However its so narrow it'd have to worry about tipping over, the big exposed treads on the side would be bait for RPGs or mines, the flat sides wouldn't help at all with deflection of blast-effect weapons, and the paired light cannons would be pretty ineffective against most other armored vehicles. Modern tanks tend to be short (relatively), squat, angular, and mount the single biggest gun they can get away with, everything the HISS isn't. In short it'd be a terrible tank, and it wouldn't do well against an actual tank.
However As a support vehicle for mechanized infantry, there's possibilities. Teamed with stuff like the Bradley or the BMP3, what you get is a vehicle that mostly wouldn't care about small-arms fire, a pair of 40mm cannon could lay down a lot of hurt on guys in light-armored technicals or hiding in a civilian building, with the speed and small profile it could maneuver quickly in a rocky or urban environment, and the height would have good visibility for the commander. You'd still want better protection for the crew and better angling and material for the armor (one guy with an RPG or EFP mine would ruin your day), and other vehicles would still probably do the job better (Stryker for example), but if you're a 3rd-world country who just wants to suppress rebels and stage big parades to intimidate your subjects, they'd get the job done. And since Cobra's doctrine is usually to descend on a lightly-defended target with numbers and surprise, appear rapidly to steal or destroy the macguffin and terrorize the locals, then disappear too quickly to pursue before a response can be organized, it suits their doctrine pretty well. Just don't get into a stand-up fight with a platoon of MOBATs or you're toast. |

The USS Defiant would kill everyone in the launch vehicle every time it launches.

So many Joe and Cobra vehicles especially today would be useless. Drone warfare is making so much obsolete. Just hang out on r/combatfootage and it's crazy to see drones demolishing everything not a Bradley.
The HISS might actually be good if it can outrun a drone. Ironically, the Trubble Bubble and CLAW (which always had automated drone use capacity) might be the best Cobra weapons these days. |
