@J James - it does say in Classified Zandar's product description that the scarf is a constant reminder of their special bond--so it's more than a bandage, but it could be both too.

Maybe fancanon in that he bought her the jacket when they were younger because it was something she really wanted and cared about - it was also her first "leather," and the act of her destroying part of it to save him after his injury would include all the "special meaning" needed for the item.
