I don't see what the big fuss is. I love the 25th troopers and vipers, but I also really like all the new Cobra soldiers.
My favorite is the Ice-Viper. I am currently putting together an army of Neo-Vipers, Viper Commandos, and Crimson Neo-Vipers. I plan to buy one of the new Star Wars Clone Turbo Tanks & turn it into a Viper transport. I am not a big fan of Star Wars stuff normally, but this huge transport has the looks to cross over to the ROC universe.................... Yo Joe !! |

Well I was thinking this a few days ago myself. I hate most if not all of the new cobra designs. The only ROC stuff that looks good is the Joe stuff to me and even that is far and few. All that being said the 2010 stuff is looking really good, still mostly Joe. But there is some cobra designs that are starting to look good for 2010. I really just want to see the turtle vipers go away. All of the in all of there silly rainbow colors. Give me some cobra solders in blues and grays with tactical gear on.

This is what happens when Hollywod gets their filthy hands on the things we hold dear. Hence the "New" Transformers and Megatron having a pea shooter arm, Cobra looking like a reject post apocolyptic biker gang from Mad Max, and Optimus Prime having lips and flames......see where I am going with this????
So you are not the only one to notice this. I was looking at my 25th army yesterday thinking how bad ass it looks, even though these designs are form the 80's- early 90's they still hold and make a lasting impression even today. I used to look at TF's and when they re-issued the classic lines I would pause for a sec, but then I just kept walking, trying not to let me fanboy-ism get the better of me. Trying not to think..... my TF's were metal WTH is this plastic????? lol. Becasue of stupid things like Drop Tests, politics, etc, our kids are missing out on some really cool toys like Fortress Maximus, Scorponok (The real one, not this movie crap) and having to settle for Anniversary Optimus Primes without smoke stacks........ jeez.

I always figured they looked a whole lot like an up dated take on those 1930's german soldiers. You know that whole WWII thing. But I might be wrong.

The CG's always reminded me of a re-take on the gestapo so you may be right.

Are we talking "In a dark alley?" Or "Future of the line?" I'm not sure what that cc mask was, but I can't say I thought it was terrifying. Uncomfortable to look at, maybe, but not scary. It scares me more that I may see it again.

I can't say they're so bad once you're holding one. I'm not a fan of the Eel that much as he looks sort of goofy with the big jacket. The Neo-Vipers look decent enough to me. Plus the colors are good. The Viper Commandos are sort of a step down as they seem too Cobra-La with the Crab body Armor. But still they have that intimidating look. My Favorite are the Elite-Vipers. They almost seem like Delta-Force type Cobra Troopers. Great Weapons and great articulation. Although none seem to have any pockets or knives or grenades sculpted on the body.
Now they did make Cobra Commander and Destro pretty Ugly through the Course of the movie. Both are disfigured. What kid wants to be that guy? Their Marvel counterparts were a mystery, much like Boba Fett or Firefly. (Guys with mad-skills) So I say Yes I agree they made Cobra Ugly on Purpose, but I Don't know what the purpose was. So at this point if you asked a kid who was his Favorite Cobra he'll say Storm Shadow most likely. But maybe by a second movie new characters will show up (Come on Firefly!), or the commander might put the hood on and become the evil genius we love. As far as the figures that are not even in the Movie; well that might be Hasbro's fault. The Ice-Viper looks good enough. Terra-Viper is total crap! WTF? Firefly as the Pilot of the Gunship= Lazy! make a new character or Wild weasel? Firefly as the TRU exclusive = a really great reuse of parts. He gets an A. Nitro-Viper= although less than stellar he is not a bad homage figure. That's it so far. Everything else is based off the game or Hasbro's imagination. The next few waves look good. But Did Hasbro's design team do any better by the late 80's? Hydro-Vipers Toxo-Vipers Alley-Vipers(I love em. but bright Orange seems a little risky for a toy design.) Range-Vipers have that same skull-face look. HEAT-Vipers both versions? Yellow or Neon Green. And there is more. |
