Let's say you either had to or wanted to take your collection down to a "bare minimum," what would that collection look like? Since the reason you're downsizing matters & has a bearing on what you get rid of (I mean, if you need money, you're obviously getting rid of the most valuable stuff), we'll just say money's not the prime motive for this exercise. I've been slowly but surely paring mine down, with the luxury of not needing to financially, and it's a helluva thing. My motivation is that I just don't want to haul all this shit around with me the rest of my life, both figuratively & literally. Should be a simple task, but what I run into is this weird association between things that makes it hard to get rid of stuff. Like, if I keep a Conquest, it makes me want to also keep a Skystriker, or if I decided I don't need some of the Dreadnoks, might as well get rid of them all...stuff like that. It starts feeling like an all or nothing deal. It's goofy.
Anyway, so where I'm at now is keeping a few iconic vehicles that I dig & trips the ol' nostalgia buzzer: Rattler, Conquest, VAMP, RAM, HISS, FERRET...etc. What's taking forever are the figures...I thought of at least keeping it to modern era 4" (with some new o-ring redos) and one figure of each character I really dig, but that's such an exhausting prospect in itself, it makes me want to just toss it all. It's just the sheer accumulated amount of shit! And I have nowhere near the collection many of you have.

Cutting my troop builders from 10-15 to 5 would wipe out at least half of my ME and Classified Collection. Limiting to just one per named character would eliminate another substantial chunk. Vehicles is another issue, I'll have to think about that one.

I'm at the point where I'm looking to get rid of the overwhelming bulk of my Joe stuff period, as I'm just too frustrated with the years of start-and-stop support followed by a scale change I have no interest in following. Plus I've accumulated way too much stuff for my own good and needed an excuse to cut back anyways.
I'm really trying not to remain too attached to anything at this point, and I've already managed to part with certain things that I would have found indispensable even just a few years ago. It's weird to say, but it's kind of liberating. If I was to keep a bare minimum of Joe, it would probably be the 4" Retro line as it represents a fair cross-section of the series, a few 25th figures, and a very small curated selection outside of that.

For myself, It'd just be all o-ring, 1 X each named character, my five favorite vehicles on either side (Skystriker, Tomahawk, Equalizer, Havoc, WHALE, Night Raven, HISS and II, Thunder machine, Moray).
I'd have a hard time with a few of the named characters, though. V3 Snake Eyes would be a tough figure to part ways with and I go back and forth over whether or not I prefer V2 or 3 Hawk. All of the other stuff, the Transformers, TMNT, Nintendo etc., would be pretty easy to let go.

It's kinda surreal saying that after posting about buying 25 or so Transformers this past week and a half literally minutes ago.

If I could keep only 10 of my Joes there would be:
1. Funskool Storm Shadow 88, my favorite figure 2. recarded 87 Jinx 3. recarded 85 Crimson Guard 4. recarded 84 Baroness 5. recarded 84 Firefly 6. 25th Viper 7. 25th Snake Eyes w/ Timber 8. 25th Storm Shadow 84 9. MOC Alley Viper 10. MOC Crystal Ball No Classifieds and I sold off my vehicles and playsets. It was hard to cut my SDCC hooded Cobra Commander, Destro, Bludd, Zartan, Night Viper and Night Creeper, but lists are never easy for OCD collectors... I sold majority of my graded (AFA) collection except for 18 pieces, but I kept my loose figures, including vintage and modern era 3.75 figures. I have about 10 Classified figures and the HISS. I collect original comic book art now (and have a few GI Joe covers and interior pages), it takes up less storage space.
