I understand that... but I have also worked retail for (far too many) years, and the store I was in had one philosophy: If the customer wants something, you go out of your way to find it for them. End of story. If we didn't have it, you contacted every store in the area, or district, if need be. So, for me, it's a matter of customer satisfaction... which is something in rare form at stores such as Wal*Mart, where the problem is more rampant. Hell, the 4 Target's and one T.R.U. in my area have actually begun HELPING the customers find items. |

Not true. I actually had a WM associate tell me once that I was not allowed to open the boxes on the pallet. This was in August or September 2008 though when 25th was at it's peak and it was hard to find new figures on the pegs. The person was actually quite rude about it. Needless to say I have never been back to that particular Wal Mart.

I think as long as you don't make a mess of things the workers won't mind. As others have mentioned, it is already in the system when it makes it to the aisle. If anything, it's a few less figures for them to stock. If it becomes a problem I'm sure they will tell you something.
Edit: We'll I guess it is a problem for some. Maybe it's better to ask first. |

First off: sorry for jacking the thread and taking it slightly off topic...

Hell, the 4 Target's and one T.R.U. in my area have actually begun HELPING the customers find items. Yeah, Target's awesome. K Mart was the store I worked at where the backroom was too messy to find anything. Most places rarely have overstock in the back and emptieness on the floor. With electronic stock keeping systems overstock is pulled nightly. I'm talking about food and drug store's here. I used to take the walk to at least make the customer feel like I was checking even though I knew nothing was back there. Sometimes it's enough to make people feel like you care. |

Sorry, I didn't mean to come off as confrontational if I did.

Yeah, back in the 25th days when you really had to hunt to find product, if I were to find something I knew was rare (and that I was unlikely to find again), I'd open a case to get to it. If an associate was nearby, I'd ask first. If they were not, I'd open it and put the remainder on the pegs. Either way, I'd put the stock on the pegs for them.
I once witnessed a SW feeding frenzy. Those guys show up with box cutters and everything, tearing into the cases right on the palettes and leaving the leftovers all over the place. Yikes. I don't think they were taking no for an answer. These days, there is nothing I think will be that rare that I must hunt like crazy to find, or show up at stocking time to get. |

I usually rifle through a case if I'm 100% sure it's the one I need, I'll sometimes ask an employee if one could be found, usually they're not around. So I go about my business. Walmart is the worst for customer satisfaction though. Target and TRU are the best, the stockers @ my local stores I know and hold stuff for me. Walmart says they're not allowed and they never have shit anyway, especially in there ever shrinking toy dept.'s

I've only had 1 opportunity to do this. It was when the 25th wave 5 first came out. I had found all the figures except the Crimson Guard. I went to TRU on a Thursday night before they closed and a case was on top of a pallet in the aisle. I opened it and grabbed both CGs.

These days, there is nothing I think will be that rare that I must hunt like crazy to find, or show up at stocking time to get. That is one thing I have never done. That is, I have never made a special trip to try to get the newly stocked items. I do make special toy runs, but it's when I have the time in my schedule like during lunch, on my way home from work, or on the weekend. I suppose if I had the free time I would, but my daily routine is kind of full usually. |
