Yep, I ahve when the opportunity has presented itself and I have been harped on by the stock worker.
Once I asked to have a box opened and the woman told me that she could not. I asked why not, since it was clearly on the floor to be opened and put on the pegs, but she reitertated that she would not open it. I informed her that I intend on spending money in her store and that, as a customer, I should be tended to in order to meet both her stores business need and the purpose of her working their, which is making sure a customer is taken care of. I wasn't difficult, nor was I asking for anyhting overly hogh maintenance. Merely that a box be opened and I be allowed to take what I needed for purchase. This isn;t the first time I have run into this. It's funny how department store clerks will NOT meet your need and serve their intended purpose of selling to their cistomers, rather, they can get defensive as though it's the most difficult thing in the world to open a cardboard box and earn their store a few bucks.

I always grab the box and fill the shelves for them while picking out what I want to buy.

frank, I once told a lady I would do that and she said they were not aloud alas this is the same lady that even though she was very nice acted like it was a covert op to open the box.

I've gone through a pallet or two to find 25th figures. I love those cubby holes above the shelves at TRU.

I do it every time I see a pallet on the floor by the action figures. I look it over and start getting into the boxes I'd like to see. Even if I intend to buy what's in them or not (TF's, SW's, Marvel, etc.). Of course if I come across a fresh case of Joes I usually get something.
It all depends on who's working do I get any flak (doesn't matter what store WM/TG/TRU). If ladies are working the pulls they usually don't care so whatever I don't buy in the case I'll put on the pegs/shelves for them. Some guys don't care, but some act like your vandalizing store property. That's when I continue what I'm doing while not making eye contact. Do that and keep the knife you opened the box with flipped open in your hand, you shouldn't run into that much opposition.

When I worked at Kmart and folks wanted to take things out the boxes themselves, I didn't care. It was one less I had to put on the shelf.

I have done this, although I have never dug through a box to see what it was. Most of the time, when a new wave of 25th would come out, I would just grab the case I wanted and open it on the way to the register.
