I don't think Hasbro is going to stop making toys anytime soon. However, I think they've shown they are open to licensing out their property to other companies who want to do things they have no plan of pursuing. If someone wants to pay them the license fee and make 3 inch or 4 inch figures, they seem happy to go with that while they focus on 6 inch figures. If Hasbro hits a point where they want to stop making 6 inch Joes, they probably would license out the rights to someone else for the right price. If they want to aggressively pursue a return to o-ring figures, they'll likely stop licensing out the 4 inch scale.
Personally, I think the long term future of toys as we know them is kind of bleak. Already toy companies have shifted to being collectible nostalgia products for older fans. Virtually every major toy line Hasbro is pushing these days is a call back to the 80's or 90's -- Marvel, Star Wars, Transformers, G.I. Joe, Power Rangers, Ghostbusters. What was the last entirely new IP that caught the imagination of kids like those properties did for us? Maybe Mattel's Monster High? But, all that being said, the toy market of 2023 would be unrecognizable to people in 1983, so the industry will innovate and change, likely in ways we aren't able to see right now. |

Does anyone even know if the McFarlane figures are actually the 7 inch Page Punchers offering instead of the like, 2.5 inch limited-articulation Page Punchers?? If they're the 7 inch variety you'd find in like, specialty stores and comic stores I guess you'd have a point but if they're the normal Page Punchers I've seen at retail then I don't think Classified's ever gonna go anywhere soon.

If we're throwing names into a hat, I like Jada Toys' work on the Universal Monsters. These and their diecast vehicles have been fun lines ... which I think is crucial to all toys. Unless you collect clowns. Those are always creepy.

We're not, they already signed a deal with McFarlane.

If board games are a growing segment - why not make a GIJoe board game that interacts or uses action figures - like the old Commando Attack game? We used to have fun with that game - using our figures instead of the game pieces.

If Hasbro was willing to license their pride and joy (O-Rings) you can bet that Classified aint far beyond. People in other threads were saying "no way they wont do classified anymore they make too much money out of it" I think forums like this create echo chambers, and people dont realise a mega corporation like Hasbro cant be viable producing figures that only adult collectors buy. Their action figures dont sell like 20 years ago, Star Wars and Marvel are very much broken brands, and kids dont buy gi joe. All those licensing and plant closing are a sign of the times changing. Youll still have your gi joe but maybe not from who you were use to.

If Hasbro can save a buck, cut jobs, cut manufacturing costs, cut design teams and everything else and still get a product on shelves with the company name and their brands on the package. They'll do it in a heartbeat. It's the corporate way of doing things. |

It would be weird to not have Hasbro figure anymore, like when we "lost" Kenner for Star Wars, but in the long-run it could be great. It depends on how well Super7 does the o-ring. If they look nice, have awesome cards, and they churn out some new vehicles, then I'd be cool with them taking over the property. Classified has about 1 to 2 more years before they start really scraping (look how much Python Patrol we already have).
I'm pretty much done with Star Wars, except for a few old figure and ships from the 30th and Hot Wheels line. The only things I bought this year were some Retro things like Bossk and the Vintage Collection Kenner Boba Fett. Everything on shelves is Disney+ stuff I don't care about, but I'd buy a Vintage Collection Shin if they made her. Oh, and Vintage Collection Dooku is on pre-order because I've been asking for that for years. Marvel Legends I don't buy anymore, either, except for some old stuff. They've done all the major characters I want, but I'll be getting that Psylocke 2 pack they just revealed. I don't buy Transformers or Power Rangers or Ghostbusters, so bottom line is, I don't "need" Hasbro the way I did ten years ago. If they just did boardgames and stuff, I'd be 100 percent cool with that. |
