Where is the "Bumblebee" film in all that? It did great. It's worldwide box office numbers were around $460,000,000. Digital/Home Market was $38,000,000. Way better than "The Last Knight". It could be interest is "waning" in the Michael Bay style. ROTB basically took all the cool stuff from Bumblebee and said,"Naw just kidding. Bay is back!" But saying Transformers, as a brand, is "waning" just isn't accurate.
This article dropped yesterday. Even Golden knew Snake Eyes was going to flop https://www.joblo.com/snake-eyes-and...gi-joe-reboot/ GI Joe isn't as relevant today as it was in the 80's. But that does not mean it couldn't make an awesome resurgence with the right material. Hell, look at Classified. It's the most successful Joe has been since ARAH. To say it's impossible/kids don't care etc lacks any attempt at imagination (NOT directed at you DB). I wish they would make a GI Joe: Classified animated series. Hire Studio Mir to produce and direct and air it on P+ That shit would own. Hahaha I was expecting someone to ask that yesterday. I left it out since it was a spinoff and didn't think it was fair to compare it to the rest of the franchise's main films. But here ya go! Bumblebee (2018) Domestic total - $123.2 million International total - $340.8 million Worldwide total - $468.0 million (26% US/74% overseas) Domestic tickets sold - 13.7 million To be clear, I don't think Transformers as an IP is waning, just cinematic TF, at least right now or for the past 4 or 5 years.

It's completely fair to say that G.I. Joe has never maximized its cinematic earning potential because every adaptation has veered pretty heavily away from the most iconic and widely recognized aspects of the franchise. Even if you're gonna say "oh well no kids care about it and won't go see it," you're gonna catch way more casuals if you're adapting the property in a more traditional way.

Bruh, you said it yourself, G.I. JOE is not a hard concept to adapt to film or t.v. That fact that there's a school of thought out there that says JOE can't work in live action is proof positive that LdiB has had a negative effect on the brand. Guys are only basing this opinion on LdiB's lacklusters, (i.e. films,) because unfortunately LdiB's lacklusters are the only frame of reference guys have in regards to live action JOE films.
- Could somebody else make a good G.I. Joe movie? - Will G.I. Joe be a billion-dollar movie franchise? Question #1 does not necessarily correlate to question #2. I have every confidence in the world that a smarter filmmaker could make a better G.I. Joe movie than Lorenzo di Bonaventura has in any of his three tries. Still doesn't mean G.I. Joe will be a billion-dollar film franchise. |

ROTB may have been directed by a different dude. But it is still very much a Bay movie. As such,"Fuck the lore."
