I think the problem is you have to find comic writers who can write good movies and shows. So far Robert Kirkman is the only comic writer I can think of who can do that. Frank Miller who wrote great comics like 300, Dark Knight Returns, and Daredevil: Born Again went on to write Robocop 2 & 3 and those movies were awful. Miller also wrote and directed that awful Spirit movie from 2008. Granted Miller's comics have also gotten terrible as of late Holy Terro anyone? Then there is Geoff Johns who wrote good comics like Blackest Night, Flashpoint, and Batman Earth One, but he also wrote the screenplay for terrible movies like Wonder Woman 1984 & Josstice League. So you have to find comic writers who can also write movies because they are different mediums.
And Ant-Man's "break even point" was 600 million, so yeah... it bombed. She-Hulk was well-received by critics... not by fans. And it's the fans that make you money, not the critics. Back in the day, a critic review could make or break your film, but that is no longer the case. Most audiences don't give a damn what the critics say. And even if you don't believe all the rotten audience reviews (I don't either, but I also don't believe all the positive reviews), you can just look at how She-Hulk's ratings tanked to see people weren't watching it as the series progressed.

From what I understand, a movie also needs to recoup the marketing budget, which can be as much as the production budget.

"With a production budget of $200 million and a marketing spend of at least $100 million, ?Ant-Man 3? is expected to fall short of the roughly $600 million needed to break even in its theatrical run." And here's the article, if you want to check for yourself. The part I quoted is in the third big paragraph. https://variety.com/2023/film/news/a...ey-1235564875/

Marketing and theater distribution is why movies need to make twice their production budgets. So a film with a budget of 100 million needs to at the bare minimum make 200 million because the additional 100 million covers marketing at the fact that theaters take half of a movie's profits.

I took my total from the Wikipedia article about the movie, which got their citation from a Variety article. This is the quote in the article:
"With a production budget of $200 million and a marketing spend of at least $100 million, ?Ant-Man 3? is expected to fall short of the roughly $600 million needed to break even in its theatrical run." I think the author at Variety doesn't quite understand how box office math works because the 100 million dollar marketing expense is part of the additional $200 million the movie needed to make at the box office. If a movie makes more than twice its production budget it covers marketing expenses and the amount theaters take.
Also, and I hate to bring up Wikipedia again, but it was the first hit when I Googled, and it says marketing and film promotion are NOT included in a film's reported budget. Ant-Man costs 200 million to make and that doesn't include the marketing, which apparently cost another 100 million. So 300 million total.

Sorry, but I don't see anywhere that says Ant Man either made a profit or broke even, so unless you have an actual article that says it did, and not just the rule of thumb formula ( because clearly that isn't the case here, or else dozens of news sites are wrong about this) then I stand by what I said before about it bombing.

Usually, theaters retain around 50% of the profits collected during any film's theatrical run, meaning Disney received around $235 million dollars for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. This means that, technically, the Phase 5 film did make a profit, though a profit of only around $30 million is below initial expectations - especially when further marketing and promotional costs are considered. While Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania perhaps can't be considered an honest-to-goodness box office bomb - it didn't make a loss - the film certainly didn't reach the numbers done by the most successful MCU projects.
