I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who chimed in on this thread with some advice. I was inspired and started retrieving the collection and taking stock of what exactly was in storage.
I brought the first few totes to a new storage location. It turns out when I packed the collection up ~15 years ago, I bagged up every figure (attached)! It has made the process much less daunting. Some figs have already been bagged up to 'complete' status and excited to dig through the bins and match everything else up. It's surreal all these years later digging through a bin and immediately going "mercer's rifle, cross country's missile launcher, undertow's arm and missile." Going to spend a little free time matching things up and taking a proper inventory. Following that going to clean up some vehicles and take stock of loose parts, The Pit has been a incredible resource on that front so far. I would be lying if I didn't also say this whole process is maybe making me reconsider selling... dare I say even start collecting more? Anyways, HissTank is a great community. Thanks so much for the advice! |

Selling as a lot will be easier but you will likely make less money. Opposite for selling individually.
You could split the difference and sell the high interest items individually then the remainder as a lot. |

If you're going the eBay route sell individually. If you were to sell as a lot you'll need some patience because a quick sell at a low price will not go very far.
When you are ready to sell keep in mind that you're going to send roughly 13 percent to eBay and anywhere between 5-20 percent to shipping. I assume you have some hard-to-find gems in your pile so that shipping number could be on the lower end. |

In all honesty the collecting market is falling apart right now. Maybe it's solid for vintage Joes but in any event now's as good a time as any to catalogue your figures and (if you're using eBay) maybe even start drafting your listings. You can schedule them for the future and if you change your mind you can reschedule them again.

Unless they come out with a live action show and cartoon. Maybe the recession has less people spending money: or maybe so many lines people are picking and choosing?

As for selling a collection, I'm right there too. This will be a good time to scoop up other people's figures if you have the means to. Here's how I am going to do it. Facebook has a "ARAH 1984 collectors" page and the people on there are constantly doing auctions with each other. Faster, easier than eBay. And they are pretty good at self-policing. You can do separate auctions or set price sales, and people will even just lay out sheets of paper with separate accessories and folks will bid on them. That's way easier to manage than eBay. The OP collector who is selling has a lot of ME or 25th figures. There is a similar community page on FB for that as well, although I'm not a part of it and don't know it's name offhand. Shouldn't be hard to figure out.

Secondly, I say that because what I've sold in the last six-seven months (Hot Toys, Mondo, Power Rangers, DC Direct BTAS, MAFEX, Figuarts) I've basically given away and some stuff like Super7 I might as well have. People have no money, people are losing interest in Star Wras and the MCU, and places like Hasbro and Sideshow are having fire sales. If you have some diamonds in the rough I guess you'll be fine. |

I feel like the comment was meant more towards vintage GI Joe's then the economy as a whole. Personally I'm well aware of how bad the economy is but for the most part I'm unloading stuff for different reasons.
