The comic story matched the description written on the product file card, because they were both written by the same person. The cartoon did not follow the file card, but instead closely matched the physical properties of the manufactured toy product, so that Zartan (like his action figure) could not control his color change activation when exposed to direct sunlight.

Yes, precisely my point, that you had it exactly backwards.

Which begs the question: What was Zartan to you, as a kid? All holograms, tricks and rubber masks? Owner of a rare experimental technology? Magician and master of esoteric arts? Mutant? Military experiment gone awry?

Characters like Zartan, Boba Fett, Wolverine, etc., should always be enigmas, IMO.

Until Buzzer, Ripper, & Torch came along, Zartan?s role was a blend of Storm Shadow, Firefly, & Major Bludd.

Where's your avatar, Twins? Yeet's probably rolling in his "grave".

Zarana is already a well-developed character in her own right. The Hamaverse and the Sunbow cartoon both demonstrated this. And, although I haven't read much of it, from what I have seen, this is also true in IDW's series... the one where she and Zandar have that weird language.

For me, personally, the only time Zandar was portrayed in an interesting way was in the DDP comic. He became a member of the Coil as he resented the years of being sidelined and ignored.
