To start this thread is by no means intended to cause any offence or billitle the current situation.
Now with that said, In our Joeverse, if the team was sent on a humanitarian rescue mission, could they deal with such an incident? Obviously I am thinking about the capabilities of Deep Six and the SHARC. Does anyone remember the blue prints? What depth can it go to? Would it be able to clamp a stricken vessel and the power to bring it to the surface? Of course in our world the Joes can do anything but let's suppose just for this thought process that we are restricted by the equipment we have and the capabilities listed with them. What other disaster missions could the Joes help with? Certainly a space mission comes to mind with the Defiant. |

I will add my thoughts and prayers are with those in the current real life situation and wish the rescuers the best in their efforts.

Well, they could have saved the Columbia astronauts. The Defiant could have flown up with engineers to fix the damage to the shuttle or, if that were impossible, take the astronauts off the ship and bring them back safely.

Deep Six wears an atmospheric diving suit (ADS). The deepest declassified depth that any sailor has taken one was when Chief Petty Officer Daniel Jackson descended to a depth of 2000 feet on August 1st, 2006. The wreckage of the Titanic lies around 12,500 feet below sea level, and the Titan submersible suffered a catastrophic hull breach and was crushed less than halfway down to the bottom when making a three-hour descent to the site of the Titanic wreckage. There can be no rescue mission.

Really not wanting this thread to become a political statement.
Wow Playful those stats really show how bad the situation is. I guess our Joes could do a surface rescue mission type instead, a humanitarian helicopter evacuation of some storm hit island maybe? |

on one hand you have a boat full of hundreds of migrant families from pakistan capsized and hardly any effort was made to help them on one hand (where greece coast guard listened to children die via radio for hours), and then on the other a submarine built to fail with 5 billionaires - two of which from pakistan (where the migrant families in that capsized boat are leaving, just in case i wasnt clear what pakistan means) and there are two countries worth of military operations spent to help the 5 billionaires. you're asking, if the joes were sent on a humanitarian rescue mission, how would they deal with it- they would choose the one that's a humanitarian rescue mission and not on one that is for a protected class that already would have 2 military operations between two countries spent on helping them. you ask for humanitarianism, you are going to have politics. |

My question is more about the capabilities than the reason. I would suspect they would be ordered to intervene in whatever it is rather than choose for themselves. It is the person issuing the orders that the political right or wrongness question lays not on the doer of deeds.
So, to that end, what are the teams capabilities? Could they deal with wild fires? They can certainly deal with military operations such as hostage rescue etc of course. Could they deal with delivering aid to victims of an earthquake? Rebuilding? Evacuating? Which team members would be best suited. Alpine for mountain rescue springs to mind |

Titan should have entered Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, and Start on that controller.

At the depth it was at, this has most likely ALWAYS been a recovery mission and not a rescue mission.
In relation to Joes, this was a private tour in international waters. I don't think they'd send in the Joes for this one.
