I didn't realize at first that the Navy figures Kickstarter is Falcone's project. He used to post here all the time. I'll definitely chip in for something. |

Looks to me you're more concerned about toys than the right thing to do. There is a cost here. What the creator of ek9 did was wrong and in most communities that gets someone blacklisted. |

In The Navy - Naval themed O-Ring line. Currently just a kickstarter. Could be good for filling up all those USS Flaggs that don't have a crew...

Any reason why you opened the kickstarter prior to announcing the project?

I love G.I.Joe yes, but I love the o-ring format for figures slightly more. After all, I had a healthy dose of Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, The Corps! and STAR FORCE too as a kid. I couldn't be happier with how many lines are popping up, as well as their relative quality so far. I've got high hopes that the various lines as a whole contribute to a format sharing ecosystem that lives on as a viable system for years to come without having to rely on giant name brand productions. With that, I hope we see a custom boom when these figures all start hitting, someone will have to put together a guide eventually about which parts are and aren't cross compatible.
I'm sure nostalgia is a part of it, but there's other stuff about the form factor that appeals to me. In particular I think it's a toy format that engages the imagination just a little bit more than high detailed modern figures. I love those too, but they're so literal in their design, whereas a good o-ring figure suggests a lot but asks you to imagine that last little bit. It's like a lego minifigure or 8/16 bit videogame sprite, constrained slightly by the format and up to a little interpretation. The toy is an avatar for you to project the full expression of the character on to based on packaging art, writing or whatever. Something about that just resonates with me and makes me so much more likely to pick them up. There's all kinds of modern 4inch figures I enjoy collecting, posing and photographing too but it often ends there. I pick up and pose my o-ring figures around my desk much more often, whether it's to specifically set up a little scene or just fidget with something. A lot of other toys live on my shelves, but o-ring figures live in my heart.
