I wasn't going to post this in the HISS but with the number of highly opinion oriented (no offense) people here I figured I'd get the best results...I think it's just my OCD which tends to be rooted in feelings of guilt but do you ever feel odd collecting?
Do people ever say rude or snarky things over your your collecting? Did you ever experience moments someone unexpectedly said something supportive over your collecting or collection? I don't go out much, so if I didn't collect my life would be quite empty in some ways. Seems like people who spend their time out going to parties or sporting events would be less likely to be into home-based hobbies. In contrast, to more introverted people who put their time or money into personal hobbies not just toys either. I'm sure my collection is quite small in comparison to most of yours but sometimes I feel guilty other people would look down on me for having so much...I wonder if I should've got it but then I remember lots of it brought me happiness or got me through difficult things. I'm not saying this to say I'm thinking of downsizing, I have no interest in getting rid of things. I'm just having one of those moments of self reflection. |

If you’re not being self destructive with your collecting, and it makes you happy, don’t worry about others. I do recommend giving a little to those less fortunate, but if you choose not, that’s totally your choice, and it doesn’t make you a bad person.

I've learned to just completely disregard others' opinions of any aspect of my life. It's quite liberating, I'm much happier for it.

I've been giving food for Thanksgiving & toys for Christmas to the business I rent my storage unit from for the last few years...they give me 10% my fee for the month but the items I give cost much more than the discount I receive so I'm trying to do good

My wife supports me, luckily. Plus, we have no kids, so our money is basically just food and bills for the two of us and we buy whatever we feel like buying. We try not to go overboard, of course, but at the end of the day, we can't take our money to the afterlife with us, so may as well enjoy it while we're alive.

For me it's a balance of not caring what others think and collecting in moderation/when I have the funds available. My son gets a kick out of it and I have been throwing some Joe stuff his way lately and watching the Sunbow series with him on youtube - I guess you could say he supports me lol.
Collecting for me is a hobby, I enjoy it and it sounds like you are of the same mindset. Collecting can be a cathartic experience, I have lots of memories tied to my Joe collection - having a certain figure in hand can unlock some random memory from 1994 totally unrelated to GI Joe for me. Honestly, if you have your finances in order and are not all consumed by collecting then you could be doing a lot worse things with your expendable income. Everything in moderation |

The best thing I ever did was a few years ago to take my collection out ad display it. I used love collecting but would be embarrassed for people to know. Now I love seeing them in my display cabinets or just out in poses. I mostly get good reactions and am not interested in any others.
I do feel my collecting is becoming an addiction and a lot of FOMO involved too. Either way they make me happy and that has to be the main point right. |

I feel like if we try to use buying toys to give us peace, or help us cope with life, etc then that probably isn’t a healthy thing.
